  1. 2026.03 Update Pushed! Now Installing

If I were to guess, they're adding sport mode for the dual motor owners who want AWD and included different ride height settings for everyone because the ride quality in sport/low or lowest is a common complaint. Depending on the amount of telematics they have, they might actually have the usage...
  2. Is it OK to keep the height setting low when driving around town?

Just be wary if you use low and soft that you'll probably bottom out your air springs on any decent bumps. It doesn't have the travel to absorb much movement. If you can feel something like an impact in the floor that feels like something's loose in the suspension, that's what it is and you need...
  3. 2026.03 Update Pushed! Now Installing

I wonder if this is related to why the performance upgrade option disappeared for some people. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it's still there for the Gen 2 folks but maybe there was something in the upgrade software that had to be redone for Gen 1. As far as the software updates go, I uh...
  4. Anyone else notice the performance upgrade dissapeared?

Mine's also not there. Gen 1. I originally wanted it but didn't buy it at purchase because of the price cap on the tax incentives and having to make a choice between DMP with a standard+ and a good incentive on a regular DM with larger battery pack. I'm one of the peeps who was very interested...
  5. Anti-EV agenda

I think it was Ford who said that EVs won't ever sell because they're better for the environment, they'll sell because they're better. Well, EVs are better. Less moving parts, more power, lower operating costs. I think we're here honestly save for one thing and that is convenience during...
  6. Conversation with my neighbor... Are Rivian's really for rich people?

I see a lot of people throwing out the statement about their Rivian being the most expensive car they ever bought and uh, that's been every car for me. The Rivian's mine as well, it's just...that as my income has gone up and my life stage ticked forward, I've progressively bought more expensive...
  7. Farewell

So while technology continues to advance you may want to pump the brakes there a bit. The most pressing issue with EV batteries is cooling during charging, which is a factor of energy being dumped into it over time and as far as I'm aware there isn't any earthshattering technological...
  8. 3rd party wall chargers ok or not?

Another vote for Grizzle-E. Price doesn't necessarily mirror quality. The OEM ones aren't necessarily better than any third party, since Rivian doesn't actually make any of their chargers in-house. I forget who exactly but they're solid, though not the top mark. Something like the grizzl-e...
  9. Got Electrician - What do I need to know?

If all you have is a NEMA 14-30, I'd tell you most failures with plugs are associated with the plug itself, in particular cheap ones aren't made for the temperature cycles. What tends to happen is the heat/cooling cycles loosen the connectors on the wires and eventually it arcs out, melting the...
  10. Got Electrician - What do I need to know?

Edit: Nevermind. If you're renting it makes no sense to pay yourself for the ugprade. My house had a 200A service coming in but from the meter to the panel was only sized for around 150 and the panel itself was too small to accommodate the extra breaker (which was a code violation but hey). I...
  11. Autonomy Day, Lane Change, and the Myth of “Buy What It Has Today”

I know the adage exists more as a warning to people about not buying into promises because so often they go unfulfilled, but my experience with Rivian has definitely soured me on the 'software defined vehicle' because software/tech people are not car people and it seems to be more a marketing...
  12. 12-Month review: I can't recommend the R1S for most people

You will have to forgive me if it's been said already, but running auto/soft is a problem on Rivians, especially when it's in low and the vehicle won't warn you about it. There's not enough suspension travel when it's in low and you can easily bottom out the air springs with the dampers on...
  13. Another damn bug? No auto-lock after leaving the truck open for a while

So since the update my proximity lock has been acting very wonky, among other things. I'm not sure how they flubbed it but I've noticed my truck knows where it is, but doesn't know where it is. My problem is similar to yours except mine refuses to proximity lock at all. I found out that it was...
  14. RJ Scaringe gets new pay package worth up to $4.6 billion

I've said before that Rivian reads too many pages from Tesla's book. This week Rivian becomes another car company making a go at humanoid robots and now this. Is a pivot to AI coming too once it becomes impossible to pump the stock by building and selling things?
  15. Random Close Proximity Alerts Going Off When Turning. Anyone Else?

Well I'm stumped then. If it was the front quarter I would've thought maybe something not lined up quite right was picking up the edge of the tire at full lock, but it's not. The only other thing I can think of is if it happens when you are alone and not in proximity to another vehicle. I also...
  16. Random Close Proximity Alerts Going Off When Turning. Anyone Else?

Mine does it on the left side only. I've traced the problem to the sensors or side cameras being dirty, usually with road spray after rain. For whatever reason some of mine are super touchy. It may seem stupid, but try wiping off the cameras and the sensors and see if it works for a while.
  17. Does auto ride height work for you?

I would be blessed if my auto ride height mysteriously stopped working. I personally despise it and have to suffer turning it off every time I get in since they patched the forced re-enable in. It's actually rather dangerous if you use soft suspension because if it sets itself to low outside...
  18. Proximity Locking 2025.38.0 at Home Issue

I dunno about you guys, but after the last update my proximity locking is broken. It started acting like the home settings weren't working, locking and unlocking whenever I moved near it doing yard work. Usually turning proximity lock on/off fixes it when it glitches, but not this time. Then I...
  19. Ford Has A Huge Mechanic Shortage. Here’s How Long You’ll Have To Wait To Get Your Car Fixed

I don't actually defend the practice of making stuff a pain in the ass to fix. It's just all part of some cold calculus that it won't piss people off enough to impact sales. Out of curiosity, how hard is it to get to from below if you had the car over a pit or on a lift?
  20. Ford Has A Huge Mechanic Shortage. Here’s How Long You’ll Have To Wait To Get Your Car Fixed

While this doesn't mean anything to flat rate on warranties, in reliability engineering there are two concepts called reliability and maintainability. Reliability refers to the intervals between needing service and maintainability refers to the skill and effort required to fix something. Some...
