I think you're confusing your terminology a bit. An NMC battery IS lithium ion. "Lithium Ion" is an umbrella term that covers many different battery chemistries, of which NMC is one. Perhaps you are thinking of LFP, which is the other chemistry that Rivian uses.

Rivian just called me back and said Canton is open and offered me a service appointment as early as next week. I couldn't take that one but did get one for later this month.

The chatbot on the main Rivian web site says Canton is taking appointments and it shows up in the app as a choice when I create a service request, but if I choose it it tells me that there are no available times.

This is categorically incorrect. I use send to Rivian from Apple Maps all the time. The OP even mentions that this worked for them on iOS 18.
