I'd say it's a training/experience issue, lot of young people at the service centers not sure if it's an intentional hiring practice, the pay structure or just experienced techs not wanting to take a chance with startups or EV's in general. Probably a mix of all of that.

You can also use the tow hitch slots as anchor points but a pain to get too with the tailgate down.

Your setup is fine I just criss cross rear anchors the sheets don't move at all. With dimensional lumber you want to bundle it all together too. I don't recommend using anything other than the anchor points on this truck for heavy loads.

I'd assume you'd lose 3/4" as stated in the specs as for how it works wouldn't really be different than any other truck. That part that would suck is the extended reach for the folding piece between the tailgate and bed that other trucks don't have.

$50k isn't that bad considering the ice version starts around $40k. Though nothing really compelling here as far as pushing the boundaries but that is Toyota in general.
