To close this out, the app is now working for me in all cases with the most recent app update and vehicle software update. This includes the new widget available for Android phones.

#1: an ON / OFF switch. hands down my most desired update #2: turn off the repetitive / intelligence-insulting warnings (like regenerative braking reduced when charged to >85%). I got that first 2,686 times.
