bait-and-switch
noun
the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods which are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods.
"a bait-and-switch scheme"
When I saw this video, my first thought was that it's even more unlikely that I'm going to get my LE quadmotor R1S.
I suspect once Rivian's enduro units are tested and ready to use they are not going to devote resources to build quadmotor configurations.
Update. I have now been migrated to Canadian pricing. Huge difference in price for pre march reservation holders :) 130,00 vs. 106,00 as currently configured with forest edge/green and wall charger.
If I actually end up with one I'll be happy.
I did a website chat today and this is what I was told:
I then asked how I was suppose to know this and also pointed out that my configuration and pricing is still in USD. Reply below:
I think the take home message for me is that some people with early pre-orders and a Canadian address are...
Well I’m not surprised that I didn’t get an email (Rivian typically misses their own self-imposed deadlines and seem to have great difficulty with coms). Thus I have no way of knowing the status of my reservation.
I suspect that I won’t actually get a launch edition vehicle based on my...
For those of us, in Canada, that were in "processing estimate" did anyone get an email or update on the webpage. yesterday? I was under the impression that we were going to receive an update? I'm confused? logged in and still "processing estimate" and no email from Rivian....
Rivian really needs to set a price on new vehicles that will make them profitable (eventually). Going back and removing features and charging for previously included items just makes them look desperate and clueless.
If my vehicle, without a subscription, is not close to what was previously...
Even if the email was more clear...can you really trust what Rivian states? I don't think anyone should rely on what Rivian publishes. I would just make decisions based on what is currently available. The fact is...this company can't be relied on.
I'm sure Rivian has made these changes to...
The main points of the article are reasonable:
1. The stock is way way down
2. A promising relationship with Mercedes is on "hold"
3. Overall production is relatively low
4. Apparently there is a huge negative gap between profit and ongoing costs
5. The market has compelling new models coming...
This has me a bit concerned. I live in a place where the roads are covered with ice throughout winter. Regen braking causing skidding could be dangerous. Having said that I have never driven an EV so not sure if this is something that will be easily/safely compensated for by driving...
Someone should make a definitive thread about bait and switch and list all the promises/features that have now been revised/held/stripped away. To name a few:
1. Lidar
2. Tank Turn (?)
3. R1S maxpack
4. Powered tonneau (?)
5. Camp Kitchen (?)
6. Delivery order (max pack first, etc...)
7...
Well it looks like Rivian hasn't forgotten about us. So hopefully they don't miss their next self imposed deadline of providing updated delivery information.
Thanks for posting. My guess is this is a problem with the glass and not anything you did. Unfortunately the concerns with these vehicles are mounting.
I have a July-Sept R1S delivery window. I got the email a month ago stating that updates for my window would happen in two weeks. I tried chat today to find out why I hadn't received an updated window. The chat workers are aware that not everybody has been updated. They were hopeful it would...
Arghhhh....The amount of troubles being reported this early in the release is very very worrisome. People can debate the numbers but this many issues so close to launch does not portend a good future for the vehicle and company.
As problems mount the ability of Rivian to provide good customer...
Maybe Mercedes will bait and switch like Rivian to garner media attention. It certainly worked for Rivian! I personally think it would be cool to do on snow, but by no means a deal breaker.
As an R1S LE pre-order customer…I find this vehicle very compelling. I’m a fan of Rivian, but continue to monitor the E-SUV market. It’s nice to see more options in this segment.
