Personally I don't think you need a backup camera. If you practice it will get easier. As far as the range hit goes, yes a 50% drop is what I experienced on my Model X (and others here towing with the R1T state a similar experience). All Electric Family on YouTube, Insta, and Facebook has...
@bhopkins I appreciate these types of posts. I am coming from two Teslas and the charging experience on road trips is the only thing that is giving me a little heartburn about turning away from Tesla. Please keep us posted on your journey!
IMO with an R1T and a BaseCamp 16 there is zero need for a WD / anti-sway hitch. AirStream doesn’t even recommend them for that model, and your tow vehicle will be massively capable of towing such a light trailer (and the tow vehicle will weigh more than twice the trailer).
I’ve towed my 20X...
Your vehicle color / rim combo is beautiful. I’ve configured my R1T / S a million times, and have settled on that combo (S though, not T, I think). Just really classy…
Just for others' sake, I wanted to clarify that the 2009 model year BaseCamp you linked is a very different animal than the current gen. The current generation ones have a full galley plus a shower / toilet. The previous generation BaseCamps really were more geared to being a toy hauler.
I love the latest OTA that allows you to filter chargers by brand / provider. That should be helpful as some of these providers go through their growing pains.
Looking forward to the network growing up and out over the years; a reliable charging network is definitely something I've enjoyed...
I've had a '22 BaseCamp 20X for 10 months now and LOVE it. I've gone on 4 trips with it over 20 nights total. Towed it with my X before it got totaled; installed an upgraded hitch receiver on the X so the hitch weight of 525 lbs wasn't an issue (obviously not a problem in either Rivian). Took...
Interesting that Apple Maps shows the station as Temporarily Closed. Glad you got a charge, and thanks for posting this fun trip for us all to follow along...
I had unlimited Supercharging in my X before it got totaled, so I used the SuperCharger network all the time too. The number was always reliable for me (if I refreshed it).
It will be very interesting to see how much (if any) things get integrated. For instance, on my Model Y I can see how many free stalls are available at a SuperCharger, and on my route it tells me how long to charge, etc. Would be really cool if you can set up a Tesla account and get that kind...
Seconded. Before my X got totaled I used it to tow my Airstream and it was a CHAMP. VERY firmly planted (probably due to the weight and air suspension), with tons of power to spare. Such an enjoyable experience (but nerve wracking just due to the amount of money on the road). Looking forward...
Thanks for the quick reply. I hear ya, and it wouldn't bother me too much if I was doing the trip alone. But with my wife and kids it would be a different story (she's not really big on EV's and new tech in general, and this would just give fuel to the fire).
