  1. Steering lock

Perhaps. Going to test that today. It didn't. As of 2022.31, like every other car on the road, the steering wheel won't turn until a key is presented.
  2. Any tests done on Vampire battery drain?

Here's the latest under 2022.31, Camp Mode's "Power Off" option for a full day. No appreciable change compared to 2022.27. I'm still losing 6mi/day. The vehicle is still frequently drifting in and out of sleep.
  3. Steering lock

Yeah, you're right about that. Habit. Regardless, it's off now, and that's got to save some power. In another thread there was a user who was able to turn the steering column from underneath with his fingers - clearly keeping that hardware online will use *some* power. That said, I'm not...
  4. Any tests done on Vampire battery drain?

Yes, I lose 6mi a day with GG off. Doesn't matter if proximity locking is on or off.
  5. Any tests done on Vampire battery drain?

Just got 2022.31. I'm measuring drain on Camp Mode's "Power Off" first, then going to try regular operation. I noticed the steering wheel is locked now so the power steering pump is likely off. I would bet this is where the 10% improvement comes from. We'll see if it's true.
  6. Steering lock

This is fixed in 2022.31. I'd bet $50 this is where the "10% improvement to vampire drain" came from, and another $50 it's going to be more than 10%. I'm measuring Camp Mode "Power Off" drain now, then will measure regular drain to see what we get. Huge relief, now I don't have to worry so much...
  7. Motortrend Article: The R1T Net-Zero Camping Trip (That Almost Wasn't)... phantom power drain, cold weather, and a charging desert nearly

That's still an average consumption of 100 watts. Like running an Xbox on the 120v all day or a couple of ceiling fans on high. Still, way too high.
  8. Motortrend Article: The R1T Net-Zero Camping Trip (That Almost Wasn't)... phantom power drain, cold weather, and a charging desert nearly

Agree, and if Rivian's OS sees that the truck is staying awake for too long without accessories on, without presence or GG or other mitigators it could defensively reset or at least notify the user. It's out of control. The same with many cars. But a 12V lead-acid battery is typically in the...
  9. R1T Vandalism (Window Break In) But Gear Guard Didn't Record

Because they advertised a feature that doesn't work at all. The advertising materials and owners manual lie to you about the working functionality of the system, and it is so trivially testable that it simply cannot be true that Rivian does not know about it. If gear guard were working, best...
  10. R1T Vandalism (Window Break In) But Gear Guard Didn't Record

Or, if you don't want to replace your garage door opener, this is super cheap and effective. https://www.amazon.com/Ecolink-Intelligent-Technology-Z-Wave-TILT-ZWAVE2-ECO/dp/B00HGVJRX2/ I'm sure there are wifi versions too. OP, talk to Rivian. They should pay for this. It is well documented...
  11. Any tests done on Vampire battery drain?

Where is it now? I am still consistently losing 6mi/day, so roughly 2.8 kWh or so, making this one of the highest-consuming appliances in the home. This graph shows loss of nearly 10 mi in the last 40 hrs.
  12. Any tests done on Vampire battery drain?

I've been monitoring my vampire drain with homeassistant. I see about 6mi/day (~3kwh or 2%) loss every day. I see the truck switching from "sleep" to "ready" power state roughly every hour. I think there may be a problem with Gear Guard. It should be obvious when it is on in terms of battery...
  13. Vampire drain vs Lightning (& EV6)

As far as I can tell, the option to turn off Gear Guard at home has the same power usage as having Gear Guard on. It just doesn't save videos. Seems like a fixable bug.
  14. Steering lock

That's bizarre. It would suggest that the power steering pump is *always* on. So I checked it and... It is! Totally crazy. The wheel is unlocked and power steering active while the car is off and locked???
  15. Steering lock

On every other car I've driven in the last two decades, the steering wheel locks when the car is off. On EVs, "off" isn't really a thing, so the steering is locked while the car is "unlocked" but not "drivable", i.e. when the keycard has been presented in the interior and the brake has been...
  16. Rivian R1T CV axle failure missed by service center

The R1T stands alone in modern cars I've ever used where there is no steering lock whatsoever at any time. Even Teslas lock the steering until you present a key (or, oddly, start playing games). This is a concern for me not only because of the phantom drain, but because my kid keeps getting in...
