  1. HELP Charging with generator

So you connected the generator frame to ground, but is that frame ground point continuous with the receptacle ground pin? Do you have any way check the AC frequency the generator is putting out? Some run fast (62+ hz) by design, especially while unloaded.
  2. Positive Phantom Drain update : 0% range lost after 5 days unplugged

Is it possible the phantom drain is reduced only because it's not cold enough to need the camera area heaters on?
  3. RIVIAN SUPPORTS PUBLIC LANDS RULE AND INVITES COMMUNITY TO JOIN (Please Sign)

Oil and gas are absolutely not conservation. Grazing can be, or not be, depending very much on how it is done. So I'm very much in favor of curtailing drilling on BLM land to basically zero new wells, but a wholesale ban on grazing, not so much. Requiring rotational/adaptive grazing, access...
  4. POLL: Would you like Rivian to adopt NACS Tesla charging standard?

I agree Tesla should have not sole control over it. But after the mess the SAE made with J1772/J3068/CCS1, I don't want them to be the one in control of it either. CharIN is also out in my book. Maybe IEEE can do better.
  5. Rivian R2 - Which one will it be??

They should do the Audi thing that converts from closed bed/trunk to open bed. Keep decent soft road and light off road chops with fixed suspension and lockers. I would buy that in a hot second if they could deliver at a reasonable price. https://www.theautopian.com/audi-activesphere-concept/
  6. Rivian will open its RAN charging station network to all EVs -- says RJ Scaringe

Was the polestar on a DCFC dispenser or the L2 post ? L2s have been open since forever (thanks Rivian), but this article is talking about opening the DCFC dispensers too. Definitely kudos to Rivian for opening the RAN DCFCs eventually, but also boo for ~2024 until it happens...
  7. Solar Integrated Charging

I have seen HA integrations for SolarEdge, Sol-Ark/SunSynk/Deye, Growatt, Enphase maybe, and a few others. There are also raspberry pi based CANBUS and MODBUS reader options if your inverter has either of those outputs. ESPHome and others have standalone Current Transformer options to measure...
  8. Solar Integrated Charging

I have HomeAssistant controlling my OpenEVSE and Tesla to charge deeper and faster when solar + grid CO2 intensity are the most favorable. It also does charge timing and pre departure conditioning to meet irregular but known future departure times. Also depends on what make and model your EVSE...
  9. Patent Moveable Vehicle Exterior Panel (Maybe R1LT?)

I'm with Zoidz on this one. This isn't an invention, it's a patent troll grab. Not a dig against Rivian, Ford has had a huge rash of these too. I'm not patent lawyer, just a very concerned citizen. The trend in the USPTO issuing patents for ideas with clearly established prior art examples...
  10. How Tesla Fumbled

My boycott of _all_ Wendover production videos started with the one where they couldn't even keep the Bolt and Volt straight. If they can't even do the most basic of fact checking, anything else they "produce" cannot be trustworthy or worth my time to watch.
  11. Some Quick Math on Electrical Grid CO2 Emissions and Vampire Drain

Been playing with turning on and off my OpenEVSE based on CO2signal / electricity maps data via HomeAssistant. It's been very very interesting. I've found a couple of inaccuracies in their data, but generally it's pretty reasonable and very eye opening. I'm in the WAPA Rocky Mountain region...
  12. RAM 1500 REV REVEALED! ? Sign in if you've reserved ??‍♂️

Not paying RAM to gather marketing data on me. Which is all a "reservation" is. No surprise at all that the production version looks to be light years from the concept. I'll still keep an open mind until I can see it, drive it, get real world range, etc. But no dollars going on the table from...
  13. New RAN station in Montrose, CO

Stopped there on the L2 side after an airport run to make make sure my family members flight actually departed before I left the area. Good location for that charger, trailer pull through was a nice touch. Definitely glad to see more options being installed out here on the western slope...
  14. Help! Has anyone registered their Rivian under their business?

I would agree with that assessment. I have driven company owned cars as an employee of quite a few different companies, and as guests of other companies, and none have ever had an individual named on the insurance ID card.
  15. F-150 Lariat 511A over Rivian

Just a guess, but it really sounds like they are adding the no resale stipulation to try to get you to balk at taking it. That way they get another unit of inventory to Dutch auction to people with more dollars than sense. The dealership model is stupid. The reservation system is stupid. The...
  16. A Tale of Two Trucks: Off-Road Trip to Test R1T Capabilities [Suspension / Damper Damage]

Thanks for letting us know. I am not sure how I feel about that warranty position by Rivian. Marketing your vehicles as adventure / off-road ready and then not standing behind them when they break on trail sends quite the missed message. I get they have to draw a line somewhere between...
  17. R1S Review Upcoming - What Would You Like To See?

How about maxing out the onboard power outlets? Max instantaneous power before they kick off ( measured with a KillaWatt type meter?), and does it derate at all after long term high power use?
  18. R1S Review Upcoming - What Would You Like To See?

Blendtec "Will it blend?" Test! ..... (kidding) Detailed measurements of interior dimensions LxWxH with each row up, down, and any bonus storage nooks. Think Bjorn or Autogefühl with the laser measurement tool, or the folding ruler. Come back over this way toward Gateway and finish the road...
  19. Battery Nerd Alert - R1T and Home Backup

For the prices Rivian is now quoting for R1S and R1T, they both should come with much stronger power exporting capabilities. 240v 30 amp at a minimum in my mind. Having to buy an extra battery / inverter setup to daisy chain in with the truck is a huge negative. It's one of the reasons I haven't...
  20. I'm concerned about the "Heat-soaking sunroof" (MotorTrend's Term) on the R1S. Why no sunshade?

Would electrochromic variable tint added to the glass roof help? Seemed to do a very good job cutting out direct sun on the 787 windows. However, I don't know if it's the same stuff that is COTS available for cars or not. Is electrochromic available in the size of the R1T or R1S glass roof, or...
