  1. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Until independent reviewers get ahold of R2s, we really don't know. The iX3 has been reviewed and tested by many different outlets, and has been on sale in Europe for a while. So the range of the iX3 seems really competitive (350+ miles) and the charging speeds are as claimed based on multiple...
  2. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Yeah some of the pricing comments in this forum don't make sense. Really this iX3 should be thought of a competitor to an R2 with the equivalent of a Max Battery pack, which Rivian charges $7000 for. That would push an R2 into the mid $60k range, but still have much slower charging. What BMW is...
  3. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

M Sport includes the basic driver assist package: Driving Assistant Plus with Distance Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Lane Keeping Assistant Essentially emergency braking, lane keep, and radar cruise control. Not sure if you can add the Driver Assist...
  4. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Yep. $72k is pretty much fully loaded outside of the biggest wheels. If you get the basic options like tech, parking, and comfort package, you are at $66k roughly. Not bad. As a comparison my BMW i4 M50 was almost $75k sticker, with a much smaller battery and not as good tech. However, my i4...
  5. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Ugh! Just when I thought door handle design couldn't get any worse. You'll definitely be trapped in your burning car with those handles.
  6. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

I'm assuming the price will be in the configurator, just like you see when configuring other cars on the BMW site. The email doesn't say specifically.
  7. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Just got this email from my dealership. Looks like the online configurator will open Wednesday (as others have noted) and then sending your dealership the order, they will enter it into BMWs system. At that point the $1000 deposit is due, and is refundable until the vehicle enters production...
  8. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Latest update from my dealer this morning: The order bank will open on May 6th. I will be able to build my iX3 and submit a deposit on that day to secure my order. Deliveries will begin over the summer. This is sooner than I want, only because our R1S lease isn't up until March 2027. So I...
  9. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Where are you seeing this? If anything, you can get BMW EVs (i4, iX) for well under MSRP. If dealers markup the iX3 initially (most will not) it will end quickly as production ramps up. The two dealerships I've dealt with in the past have always been MSRP or less for all BMWs outside of some...
  10. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

I just added my name to the list at my local BMW dealer. No deposit. No idea how many people on the list. We will see how this goes.
  11. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Do you have a link to this? Is it a true pet mode, or simply the current occupancy detection mode that activates the HVAC if it detects a human or pet in the vehicle and has remote climate, but that only lasts 30 minutes until it needs to be reactivated.
  12. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

If the iX3 has good lease rates, or if a well equipped version can be purchased for mid $60k, we will likely go with the iX3. The range and charging speeds are a big selling point. We would miss the larger front trunk and pet mode in the R2, but that isn't enough to justify it.
  13. R2 emergency door opening sanity check

Here is the latest lawsuit against Tesla's door handles. There is simply no justification for not including a mechanical over-ride that is intuitive to use. It's as simple as that. Yes it's very, very, unlikely to ever happen, but at the same time it's just a car. There are other options that...
  14. 2026 Rivian R2 Specs & Reviews!! 300+ Mile Range, 10-80% Charge in 30 Min, 656 hp / 609 lb-ft, 0-60 mph in 3.6s, dimensions

It's the rear ones that are a deal breaker. That is too difficult for younger kids to figure out in an emergency, especially if I were unconscious in the front seat. Simply not worth the risk. Plenty of other cars to choose from with mechanical door handles.
  15. 2026 Rivian R2 Specs & Reviews!! 300+ Mile Range, 10-80% Charge in 30 Min, 656 hp / 609 lb-ft, 0-60 mph in 3.6s, dimensions

Here is a video of the emergency door releases. Ugh. This is a deal breaker.
  16. 2026 Rivian R2 Specs & Reviews!! 300+ Mile Range, 10-80% Charge in 30 Min, 656 hp / 609 lb-ft, 0-60 mph in 3.6s, dimensions

Overall, it seems like they nailed it, assuming a dual motor with nice options is around $55k. My only complaint is the damn electronic interior door releases. I'm really not of fan of this type of door release with my kids riding in the car. Assuming it's another hidden manual release in the...
  17. Tesla kills Autopilot on new cars - Forces users to subscribe to FSD

Considering most Tesla owners like using Autopilot (which used to be free) and not pay for FSD (15% of buyers or less), it is Tesla essentially raising the price of every vehicle by $4800 if you assume the average buyer keeps their car for 4 years and doesn't want to use FSD. If you keep your...
  18. InsideEVs: 2026 is when the real EV war begins

Here is my biggest quibble with the article: "This means the mechanical side of things fades in importance behind the software that runs it." Yes, software is important in a modern car, and yes many of the legacy OEMs have lot of catching up to do which seems to be happening with this GEN 3...
  19. Lucid Gravity In Depth Review

My dream scenario is to get an R1T when our R1S lease is up (I really want a truck again), and a Lucid Gravity when my i4 lease is up. Use the R1T for skiing, camping, and around Colorado activities, and the Gravity for kid hauling and road trips. We love our R1S, but the faster charging and...
  20. Weak Sept Incentives

I had a similar call from Rivian. At the end of the day the trade-in offer on our Gen 1 lease would have left us almost $12k upside down on a new lease. Unless they basically wiped out the negative equity, I'm not trading in my lease 18 months early.
