Funny, I've been told the same about owning a Rivian. 🙂
There are many other less expensive options below on the market now, but Made in America costs more.
Librem 5
Brax.Me Store
Degoogled
iode
Or, if you prefer the DIY route and are technical, ironically Google Pixels purchased directly...
With all due respect, again there is no *perfect* solution but there are plenty of steps (some easy, some more involved) that can be done to mitigate your privacy risks. See my previous reply for links of where to start.
Of course it benefits Rivian and the *surveillance capitalism* value...
I'll take that bet. As with all things, there is no *perfect* solution, but anyone who cares about privacy and not supprting surveillance capitalism, already knows to use the Brave browser on ALL devices, since it's the most private and mot performant Chromium browser, and those who really care...
Has anyone in the US done this: Can I disable all data collection from my vehicle?
Recently, I reached out to Rivian support to ask what it would cost and they referred my question to my local service center who gave me step-by-step instructions on how to disable related privacy settings...
Agreed. I think Bezos would know better than some reviewer/writer.
There's A LOT of things that I like about the Slate proposition but the *poison pill* for me was lack of 4x4 option.
IMHO, there are 2 major potential markets for the Slate value proposition.
1. Urban/Suburban delivery...
Oh! TBH I don't recall trying that but I would think even if you could open the lift gate you'd have to have pretty big wingspan to reach over the box.
Considering how easy it is to swing open the entire thing, probably not worth the trouble.
Well, after 2 MAJOR ($30K + $33.5K) accidents in 8 months (neither my fault) and being without my 2023 Rivian R1S Gen 1 for 7 out of the last 10 months (mostly due to the insurance company's delayed approvals), I can honestly say, Jeff Shaw's Collision Craft in Baltimore (Rivian-certified) does...
We've been very happy with the one below that we got a little over year ago for our two Vizslas (60-65 lbs) who are now 13 and 11 years old.

According to state driving laws and the other parties' insurance companies, neither was my fault but if you can avoid getting rear-ended in a tunnel and the 76 year old at the stop sign not seeing you untill after she t-boned you then you're more full of sh!t than I realized.
And for the record...
Perhaps English is not your 1st language or maybe your reading comprehension just sucks but to reiterate the point of my original reply was not to whine but to debunk the false narrative that Rivian does more for customer privacy than other OEMs while not allowing you to EASILY opt out of...
Roger that.
Thanks for letting me know about the option though. It was definitely a 1st heard and I will definitely do it either way now that I have a SC that's only a 90 min round trip instead of the original 4 hour round trip.
I will miss the OTA updates since there's no way to DIY them...
First of all, yes, EVERY service provider keeps private data but they do NOT track your location in real-time. Also, doctors have federal HIPPA laws. You couldn't have used a less relevant comparison.
Considering that I was just informed about the disabling SIM card option hours ago last...
