My hope is that with the R2 release, Rivian can afford to be less price conscious with the R1. That would open up the door for things like a truly upgraded stereo system and for R1 to introduce next gen battery and other tech that may initially be too cost prohibitive for R2 and R3. Probably...
In order to determine if the tiles will crack, we have to compare the load applied to the load which will cause the tile to crack. There are other considerations such as the impact of repeat stress cycles which we won't get into here. Swisstrax, a brand mentioned in this thread, advertises the...
Dump truck tires also have a considerably larger contact patch but yes, I agree, you can't sample the flavor of an orange by eating an apple. But we're not performing engineering analogies here, we're computing the exact pressure applied to the tile by a Rivian R1 so your comment seems a bit...
nice hypothetical but not sure what your point is relative to a tire's contact patch. A tire is not rigid like a screwdriver and the contact patch will spread out as pressure drops (under the same load).
A tire inflated to 48 psi and supporting 1700 lbs will have a contact patch of just over 35...

AI Summary: Technological maturity in charging infrastructure, software, and drivetrain engineering has transformed winter EV driving from a high-stress endeavor into a reliable experience, specifically in...
there's nothing magic about the number 9. perhaps if you shared details of the things requiring service, we could more effectively pass judgement on your whininess.
Get over it. There will always be something better, newer, faster, sexier, younger, wealthier, yada, yada. Besides, not exactly sure what you think Rivian should be doing to compensate you for this perceived injustice. Perhaps you just need to appreciate what you have rather than fixate on what...
sorry, your post wasn't clear. will this be your 9th drive unit or have you had 9 different problems over 2-3 years? Yes, generally the drive units do last the life of the vehicle but a few unlucky people run into issues.
My 2023 R1S has been in for service 4 times in just over 30k miles and...
I have never, ever had a 12V battery for an ICE vehicle last anywhere close to 10 years. 2-3 years tops. But as to your question, aside from the fact that they are both installed in automobiles, they really are not the same. The loads and duty cycles are very very different.
I had the same issue starting with the latest software update. A soft reset mostly cleared it up. Now, however, sometimes I am already in my driveway before the control pops up where it normally pops up about 2 houses away.
