One consideration is that there are far fewer 21" tire options than 20". There is also the issue of All-Terrain vs AS. The latter will offer greater range than the former due mostly to differences in rolling resistance, and will also be quieter.
The Michelin LTX 275/55R21 is an all-season tire...
Your experience with the Trenton SC matches mine of last November, and I too have nothing but praise for the staff there.
Kudos to the folks at Trenton and let's hope that they are not unique in the Rivian Service Center universe.
This, and also that police vehicles even in the suburbs, often spend a lot of time parked, but needing to idle to keep the comms & computer energized, and the occupants comfortable. And speaking as a First Responder (FF/EMT/RN), I'd also welcome an EV ambulance with a large battery since that...
Perhaps user error on my part, but I found only one option for 20" aftermarket tires for my 2024 G1 R1T.
I switched out the stock 275/65R20 AT Scorpions for General HTS60 AS's in the same width but smaller aspect ratio (275R60.) The diameter of the new combo is very close to that of the stock...
To continue along this off-topic route (pun intended), the nearly-universal American highway driving trait of staying in the "fast" lane at all times is one of my pet peeves. As someone who lived and worked in the UK and Europe, I can safely say that it is an almost uniquely American. Folks...
Doesn't turning Stability down a notch on the PDM give the same straight-line performance as Sport mode?
A related question: Anyone out there with both a quad and PDM able to give some feedback on the differences (or not) in acceleration between the two?
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Some very useful tips.
I also ski, usually in the Wasatch, which is some distance from home in SE Pennsylvania. I thought about using the R1T for this year's trip, but was apprehensive about being able to successfully navigate across the several...
It may well be true that brake pad dust is more toxic that ICE exhaust gases but that alone means little. It's similar to stating that bee venom is much more lethal than rattlesnake venom. Both statements may be true, but mean little without additional information.
If I had to choose, I'd go...
This is (so far) a pretty small sample size, but an overall 12% drive motor failure rate, split pretty evenly between quad and dual is not encouraging. It would be good to know more detail about the failures, such as if they occur on early vehicles or are spread more randomly, whether they are...
Thanks for the info @Doc, very helpful stuff. I have a couple of additional questions about VD mitigation that I hope you, or others more knowledgeable than I am, may be able to help with.
Regarding the use of a 12v battery charger, what capacity is needed? Is something like a 1-1/4 amp...
I got the update late last week and my impression is that it is a bit of a mixed bag.
It seems to have introduced a lot of small bugs along with the planned improvements. None of the "bugs" are huge but they are annoying (e. g., changes to map settings, problems with the infotainment system)...
I think you're referring to the Dept of Energy loan to BlueOval SK, which is a joint venture between Ford and the Korean battery maker SK. The funding was to be used to build three plants in Kentucky and Tennessee for domestic production of EV batteries. There are some details about the loan on...
This EO is not a temporary pause of NEVI funding so that it can be examined before being disbursed, as some have suggested. It is almost certainly one of several deliberate withholds of Congressionally approved funding that the Administration disagrees with, and is part of a deliberate effort...
While there is a lot of truth in this, one of the largest (perhaps THE largest) barriers to EV adoption is not limited range due to current battery technology shortcomings, but the lack of adequate public charging. This is not to say that a breakthrough in battery technology would not boost EV...
The Malvern PA sercvice center is open which along with Trenton, are both probably much better options for you in central Jersey than is Brooklyn, despite the added miles.
Hope you continue to have good luck with your Rivian.
This is good news.
I see very little in the way of expanded public charging for the next few years, which will almost certainly dampen passenger EV sales during that time. Delivery vans that operate locally, and so don't need to use public charging, could be important in allowing Rivian to...
I too had a proactive 12v replacement when my 2024 R1T was at the SC at the end of November for installation of the PTC. While there was no way to tell the date of manufacture of the battery, the truck was delivered in June, so the 12v battery had just six months and 3,000 miles of use.
Its...
Another vote for the Emporia. The charger works very well, though the app is less than stellar. I've needed to get in touch with their support on two occasions, both related to BT linking, not the operation of the charger, and found their support (US based, as is the company though the unit is...
