It's impressive that they drove the R1T's down Black Bear into Telluride. I did this years ago in a slightly lifted GMC Sonoma which scared the crap out of me! Needed a few drinks to calm my nerves when we got into town. It's legit and will test the driver and vehicle's limits!
I'd also guess this is related to the Clean Energy for America bill that limits tax credits to vehicles with a retail price below $80,000 to qualify for the tax credits. Rivian is providing more options to spec below this limit.
I asked support this morning about removing the third row and received the following. "The 2nd and 3rd row seats fold nearly flat, but if you're looking for additional cargo space, you may unbolt the 3rd row seats and remove them with the proper tools and knowledge. "
