  1. The most annoying thing about my R1T so far

Someone might need to keep me honest here, but I believe that all Tesla vehicles use electronic door releases. This allows them to put the interior opening button wherever they want, but requires they have a manual emergency override. This also provides an external digital signal to the car to...
  2. 2022 Rivian R1T Owner update....Good News

Hopefully I like this vehicle as much as I do my "Alpha Romero."
  3. The most annoying thing about my R1T so far

It seems to me like the fundamental issue is that the vehicle lock state is tied to the self-presenting door handles. My Model Y may detect my phone and be unlockable as I walk throughout my house, but it doesn't actually wake from sleep, unlock, or turn on the HVAC, screens, and lights until...
  4. 100 amp service not enough for 48 amp charging

We also only have 100 amp service, gas furnace and water heater, electric dryer, AC, and oven. Got 2 quotes from reputable electricians for installing a 14-50 outlet in the garage. The first told me he'd have to upgrade our service and it would be $5K. The second said we'd be fine and installed...
  5. My 2 cents after 2 weeks

I agree about the ux in the Model Y but find the wireless charger great. Charges our giant Pixel 6P and S21 ultra fast and reliably, even while driving spiritedly. The design in the R1s seem like they didn't even try.
  6. Cybertruck's folding mid gate and roll-down rear window confirmed

Will be cool for car camping but will also likely significantly increase NVH.
  7. Cybertruck photo leaked! ?

Dude, what are you even talking about? Yes, the CT has an onboard air compressor. And power outlets. And the volume of the Rivian bed and gear tunnel will be markedly lower than that of Tesla's longer bed with sloped tonneau. No one has seen the frunk, so claiming a win there is also very...
  8. Cybertruck photo leaked! ?

I agree. Big deal, they made a stressed skin, stainless steel, electric pickup with ALON transparencies, hands-free facial recognition access, 4-wheel steering, and almost certainly class leading storage AND efficiency. Anybody could do that, really.
  9. Cybertruck photo leaked! ?

Front 3/4 shot: Badass dystopian armored personnel carrier Rear 3/4 shot: Dumpster bus I personally think the long bed was a mistake that makes the proportions super awkward, especially since they shortened the tailgate. Could be the lighting, but also weird how the stainless finish looks...
  10. Ocean coast interior after extended mule use

I have Ocean Coast interior in my config currently because we regret getting the dark interior in our Model Y. The ridiculously dark tint on the roof glass makes for a very dark cabin. I personally think the OC wood finish is terrible, and not sure how it was selected for a vehicle that's...
  11. Thoughts on power tonneau vs. manual tonneau

My concern with the power tonneau is the sliding and stacking motion it uses to retract. I expect it was selected due to volumetric efficiency, but aside from being slow, it seems like it will wear very quickly, especially as it gets dirty. A rolling tonneau cover like what has been shown in the...
  12. Out of Spec: R1T Charging Curve, Cost and Analysis

    1) I really appreciate how Kyle can offer coverage that is so much better than the mainstream outlets, which still have no idea how to fully evaluate EVs. 2) It's crazy to me that manufacturers can sell these vehicles without publishing complete, ideal DCFC curves. This "twenty minutes" thing...
  13. DC Throttling "battery conditioning"

IMO, Tesla owners are the only ones right now who have the luxury of not being geeks on these things. Everyone asks me how far my Tesla can go, and instantly glaze over when I tell them "it depends". With a gas car, no one thinks about range, not because of the mpg or size of your tank, but...
  14. Hagerty - Pickup Race! Rivian R1T vs Ram TRX vs Raptor vs Syclone

Am I the only person that doesn't care about straight line speed? All EVs are super fast and super reliable to the point where these things really don't matter anymore. I just want better ergonomics, build quality, and suspension refinement than my Tesla with comparable ADAS and charging...
  15. DC Throttling "battery conditioning"

Agreed, I just meant that the efficiency gains of a HP aren't limited to cabin heating alone.
  16. DC Throttling "battery conditioning"

People get all twisted in knots about the heat pump operation in very cold temperatures. Ours has worked great down to single digits, but that's not the point. A heat pump allows you to very efficiently extract heat from both the environment and from your motors. This heat is then available not...
  17. DC Throttling "battery conditioning"

I'm very much looking forward to Kyle's final impressions on how this truck does on road trips. I can justify adding 5-10 minutes to my current Model Y charging stops. I cannot justify adding 30+ minutes.
  18. Driver+ Not up to current Spec - A Deal Breaker (?)

I daily drive both my Alfa that has zero driver assist tech, and wife's Model Y, that has the full suite. As much as I enjoy my fun car being simple, the quality of life improvement for having Autopilot on long, boring, traffic-filled family trips cannot be overstated. There is nothing manly...
  19. Tesla Raises Prices

I understand why someone might think this and make such an adorable comment. In reality however, our Model Y: 1) Saved my wife's life in a horrific driver-side side-impact collision that EMTs told us would have resulted in grave injury or worse in most vehicles 2) Provided video of said...
