  1. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

You clearly have solid experience… I will shy away from high tension lines and click my wireless remote from afar ;) I agree this is a temporary solution till they come out with the official one in the front bumper.
  2. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

I thought about it too, but from what I read online those are rather dangerous (as you need to stand on the line and there are sizeable metal pieces under tension) and 3ton is not enough for the R1T. They suggest to be 1.5 to 2x your truck weight to handle mud suction/obstacles in front of the...
  3. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

i am thinking it will depend on terrain. On a rock crawl where i need all my departure angle probably in the bed. In sand/snow/mud where I am likely to get stuck but no departure angle issues likely hanging in the back. Honestly I need to experiment with it some before forming an opinion.
  4. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

Yup! I go off-road and my buddy who used to come with a modded Wrangler with a winch has moved to a Grand Cherokee 4Xe Trailhawk (awesome overlander but no winch yet), plus sometimes I go out solo. We could off course use a kinetic rope but not all conditions make for good “hard yank”…...
  5. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

Agreed! I don’t fully trust the small 12v batteries of the Rivian and anyway running long cables to the back would be a pain. They will eventually come out with a OEM front bumper winch but for the time being.
  6. Hitch-mount Winch installed (with pics)

I have just finished isntalling a Badlands Apex 12k winch on a hitch winch mount. For power I am running a 900cca 160rc 95Ah battery in a simple box sitting in the bed. I have a switch (coming with the winch) to disconnect, but will also install an Andersen plug or similar to be able to...
  7. Reason 1 why not to eat in your R1T or R1S

I “installed” a Drop Stop - The Original Patented Car Seat Gap Filler (AS SEEN ON Shark Tank) - Set of 2 and Slide Free Pad and Light https://a.co/d/ddrXiEO and it seems to work well… to be fair I made fun of my wife when she got them and bless her ever since!
  8. R1T Ride Quality Harsh on Bumpy Surfaces

I had mine (used) on 21s for few weeks and swapped for 20s. The differerence is noticeable. The 20s make it softer on bumps but more “big truck” on turns/handling. I off-road a lot so the 20s are a must have and I will accept the more sloppy road manners. Still good but not as sharp. Diff with...
  9. Thuren wheels + 35" inch Falken Wildpeak R/T tires on Glacier White R1S

Very nice! Any chance to test rubbing at full articulation? Did the SC adjust them in the computer for you? Any comments on range hit? Oh my god I have sooo many questions… this is a glimpse of customizations that is just so exciting!
  10. Steering Wheel Not Centered

Same here, noticeable tilt but not bothering and tracks straight
  11. Any recommendations for off-roading locations near Seattle?

I was mulling over the reverse (21/22 with snow tires and 20s AT for summer fun). The problem per my other thread is the $60 to SC every time we change tire size (for the computer to align range and all that). I suggest matched height tira for summer / Winter
  12. I had the software updated for 20in AT from 21in and don’t think it worked.

I think the point was that the speedo is by default overstating speed, so once you put-in the "wrong" configuration (bigger tires than the computer knows) it roughly corrects for the baseline bias. I tested across speeds 20-65mph and it was a perfect match with GPS-based speed assessment.
  13. I had the software updated for 20in AT from 21in and don’t think it worked.

I did long drive with Waze (GPS based speedo) and the truck with 20s and 21 conf and it was smack on to the last digit. I heard others clocking carefully a 20 on 20conf found it to be 1-2mph off (overstating speed, which is likely Ok to avoid tickets). I was just saying that speedo will not be...
  14. I had the software updated for 20in AT from 21in and don’t think it worked.

Speedometer it is actually more accurate when running 20s (with the computer still thinking 21s)... but distance measurements and range predictions will be off (if you can live with that probably fine). I noticed on the 20s it is less punchy on acceleration, so I scheduled the flashing to see if...
  15. Moving from 21" to 20" tires (no offroad) recommendations

I tried both, the 21s are significantly tighter on-road behavior and better acceleration (as measured by my guts, not instruments). The 20s ride bigger and more truck-like, but if you do off-road are a must have, I did a moderate trail with the 21s and while the truck behaved perfectly the...
  16. Michelin Defender tires installed on 20" wheels

From my experience going from 21s to 20s, you need reflashing (wrong range/distance measurments). Rivian can do it in the Mobile mode and costs $60.
  17. Tire Swap Cost

Yup, still says 21in. So Leshwab didn't do it (enough for the rivian to be happy). The final bill is $60 and I scheduled it for next week. BTW from more testing it seems that speedo is actually spot on (as mentioned by others above), range estimates and distance though are off (locally...
  18. Tire Swap Cost

UPDATE : I will go for it as it seems worth it, and the final bill is $60 not $120.
