Remember too that not just the rear cargo area but the R2 has an actual usable Frunk to store things especially a pack n play and at least one carry on type luggage. So that would release some pressure from the rear cargo area.
No way to know that either, depends on ramp up(It’s been said they’ll start with only one shift for R2 initially), how many R1 owners take advantage of first dibs promotion and how many actual reservation holders buy the vehicles.
Depends how quickly they get the plant up and running. S00N! Essentially anywhere from late 2025 to first quarter 2026. Also hopefully they’ll have one in each of the spaces for people to demo before ordering. But we’ll see how it goes.
No way to do that. Rivian hasn’t done that with R2 reservations. Only two announcements were given on the total number of reservations. 68,000 after 24 hrs and then another update last fall stating over 100,000 reservations. But besides that they’ve been tight lipped on numbers.
It was always first half 2026. They were suppose to have the plant shut down in Normal late 2025 so they can start integrating R2 into the line as they’ll share the paint shop with R1 line but no updates have come from Rivian beyond the first half 26’
The charge port location change and this VP was emphasizing that he has kids and wanted to make sure that the second row had lots of room even with rear facing car seats. He also mentioned there will

We were there today in Pasadena as well @HaveBlue
The VP that was talking today was saying the back opening could fit a sheet of plywood (4feet wide) I used my camera phone to measure 3 and a half feet deep to the back of the 2nd row seats. Only thing I couldn’t get was the height with that dip...
At the Rivian Space in Pasadena (where the R2 / R3X is currently being shown) one of the Vice Presidents that was there confirmed that in the production R2 they are moving the charge port to the drivers rear! Great news for usability with the current Tesla superchargers
It was at the Pasadena Space today. One of the Vice Presidents of Rivian was there. D mentioned 4 feet wide. Enough to fit a sheet of plywood in the back with the back seats down.
Pin to Drive is an Extra layer of security that doesn’t allow the car to go in gear without a PIN code entered similar to phones. In case someone gets in your vehicle they wouldn’t be able to steal it unless they have that code. Tesla has this feature available for their cars. It’s great for...
Good summary.
Also it answered my question about rear seat lighting. Happy it has a decently large light on both sides between the speaker and the grab handles.
Hey everyone, haven’t had a chance to see the R2 in person yet, hopefully at Electify Expo LB next month ??
Any one that has notice if or where the interior lights are placed or not in the back seats? Possibly footwells? It looks like speakers are by the grab handles but wasn’t sure about lights.
