Your R1 may not lose heat "fast" but I am seeing it in real time via Car Scanner Pro app on my EV which is not a Rivian. Battery details and thermal regulation in cold winter weather is important to me.
That is not the problem/question. The question is once you leave the garage and enter the cold winter weather of 10f, what will the R2 battery pack temperature do? How well is it insulated/protected from bitter winter weather? If not very well, then those of us living in the cold northern...
MY2021 EV (Mach E) does drop while driving in cold winter weather. The battery pack is exposed and this design feature hinders winter weather range/charging curves.
Need to learn next month if Rivian will have a battery that is not exposed to cold winter wind rushing over the top, bottom and sides while driving leading to conductive heat losses. Or if there will be an option to install a winter battery cap to prevent such. It is no fun to...
Testing in the UP of Michigan at the famous testing grounds that many auto companies have used including Ford with its Mach E prior to its release to the public.
If my memory serves me correctly, VW is currently field testing solid state batteries (in limited/small numbers) from QS an American based company. I don't know if Rivian has a side agreement to use such battery tech in the future.
In 2018 the Tesla ceo stated "soon a Model S will self drive itself across the country". In 2021 Tesla admitted to the California DOT its FSD is no more than level 2. Meanwhile Tesla continues to charge now nearly 10k for fsd.
