  1. NACS charge port ( SAE J3400 )

NACS has become the standard and in the future everything should be NACS in the US. Its like do you still want a Beta max player of VHS built into your entertainment center. Looking at the videos of the gen 2 port, it looks like the CCS port is removable unlike Gen 1. I suspect it will be able...
  2. Proud Gen-1 owner

Couple of things. NACS is said to be coming as soon as end of this year. If you look at the new CCS port it looks like it is removable unlike before. I suspect it’s just a matter of changing out that part when suppliers and Rivian is ready. So perhaps GEn 2 can retrofit or continue to use an...
  3. Official: 2025 R1T & R1S Refresh / Facelift (2nd Gen) Specs and Photos! Quad Motor gets 1,025 HP and 0-60 in 2.5 Seconds!!!

Glad i waited against all the naysayers out there saying it was just a cost reduction factory shutdown
  4. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Look, I had a non heat pump model 3 and a heat pump model Y. The difference was massive. I also had 2 non heat pump Model Xs and a heat pump Model X. Again, massive difference in cold weather. But you don't need to take my word for it, all you have to do is do a quick google search for people...
  5. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Also a heat pump in a vehicle may benefit more than comparing to a home HVAC depending on how it is engineered. Tesla is the prime example for this where they are able to extract heat even in very harsh environments. I'm sure Rivian was able to learn from this and make their system very...
  6. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Also the heat pump should help with drain in cold weather when it is sitting overnight. It is always a wildcard parking outside on ski trips where it is difficult to be plugged in.
  7. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Am I reading this correctly, that its comparing the 2024 with 21" vs 2025 with 22" So the efficiency gain is more than 20% if you held the it to same wheels and tires. And the 20% gain doesn't factor in the efficiency gains outside of heat pump correct?
  8. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

not really it just needs enough of it to extract heat and in most cases there is enough heat off the coolant to heat the cabin. The Octovalve is amazing and I would think rivian came up with something similar. Even if it uses resistant heat it is using very little of it. but point is whatever...
  9. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I've seen the video. Its the heat pump in combination with its holistic approach to basically HVAC of the entire car and it is impressively efficient. But its not possible without the heat pump. I suspect Rivian learned from the same teardown and also made similar gains from their system. So...
  10. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Yup, I mainly had my non heat pump and heat pump versions when I was in the northeast. I was amazed at the difference and you never know when you need that efficiency. I was once stuck for over 5 hours in local traffic due to a snow storm. I was only like 15 minutes from work on a normal day...
  11. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I've owned Teslas with and without the heat pump. The difference is massive. So much so that I tried not to get another EV without a heat pump but have a R1S.
  12. R1 Refresh announcement soon?

Even if the refresh is a few hundred pounds lighter, it was worth the wait for me since I am buying with a voucher. If I was leasing, I'd rather jump on the lease deal
  13. R1 Refresh announcement soon?

I'm confused too. Maybe his definition of refresh is different than ours.
  14. R1 Refresh announcement soon?

got a call from Minneapolis, the guy said he was a RIvian guide and wanted to know when I would be ready to take delivery. I said I was waiting for refresh announcement and he said okay sounds good, and that he will call after it. I'm a voucher holder so would imagine he's calling before 9/30
  15. Just test drove a Model X...

Another thing not mentioned is the sound system. The X has a very good sound system, it reminds me of a DynAudio custom sound system. It is leagues better than the Rivian (non-Meridian). I am hoping the refreshed R1S has a better sound system as I'm looking to pickup the Ascent
  16. Just test drove a Model X...

No, but I've done over 110mph in the X which the R1S can't. Every car has its strengths and weaknesses. The OP gives a balanced view on both cars for people who are interested in listening. The R1S doesn't have to be the best car at everything.
  17. Just test drove a Model X...

I own a Model X Plaid, Model X LR, and R1S Quad and Model Y. Hell, I've owned every version of Teslas except the Roadster. The X handles way better than a R1S and drives like a car, similar to a model S but slightly worse. I also had a S Plaid. The Rivian has noticeably more body roll and less...
