  1. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

Wow what caused that?! A high-heel from someone dancing on the roof?
  2. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

Believe it or not, I'm teaching my 16 year old HOW TO DRIVE in my beloved truck! My rationale is that while he has his "L" (a type of learning licence in BC), he doesn't cost extra... at least not for the "if you don't crash it" part of the insurance. Once he passes his "L" test and gets an "N"...
  3. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

Oof, that's a doozy!! My "impact" zone doesn't look as bad, but the cracks have propagated out just as much.
  4. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

Hey forumites, in March we had an unfortunate incident with a teenager yanking a metal bottle out of the rear cupholder (wow that thing is grippy!) and smashing into the ceiling glass. It made a large impact zone in the outside pane of glass (much like what you would see on a windshield from a...
  5. Gen 1 Vampire Drain (Possibly) Solved (or Hacked)

Have you continued to use this system and monitor its performance?
  6. Rivian / Airstream Towing Experience

I recognize that RAN! It was the first one I ever used - happened during on our BC->UT-AZ->BC trip this spring. Foolishly I pulled in on the left side of the charger and scratched my head as to why I couldn't reach my charging port... (I find it a bit odd how they set up the RAN units. Maybe the...
  7. Charging at home in Phoenix - I'm seeing a lot of auxiliary power used during charging

Our 2018 Model 3 had terrible vampire drain when we first got it. They improved it over the years, but it isn't any better than our '23 R1T, and if you use Sentry Mode (Gear Guard equivalent), it is far worse.
  8. Charging at home in Phoenix - I'm seeing a lot of auxiliary power used during charging

Until there is a battery chemistry that is more tolerant of your ambient temps in Phoenix you are probably stuck with higher energy use to keep the battery temp down on almost any EV.
  9. Who says you’ve gotta unhitch to charge?

I haven't yet gotten around to writing my blog post about our 5,000 km (3,125 miles) towing trip this spring, but I'll briefly add to this thread that I didn't drop my trailer a single time over that entire trip!! Google map route link Any other EV truck, due to poor charging port placement in...
  10. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [⚠️ WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

Having driven one once, I can confirm.
  11. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [⚠️ WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

Sometimes I really wonder how people manage this sort of thing...
  12. NACS cables now being installed at RAN stations

I read this change as Rivian trying to capture some of the Tesla drivers out there in locations where there isn't a SC. Many T drivers do not carry any kind of adapter, so adding NACS cables opens up RAN to those drivers. Since there is an order of magnitude more Tesla EVs out there, probably...
  13. What fits in gear tunnel?

Because of the odd shape of the opening, I don't tend to try and cram larger objects in my tunnel. Over the last few years, I've generally been using it for outdoor sport accessories. Currently my tennis bag/shoes, climbing harness/shoes/chalk bucket (for quick gym trips) and mountain bike...
  14. 2026 Quad-Motor R1S / R1T Officially Revealed (Specs & Price)

I do wonder if they have a stash of Bosch motors laying around for any gen 1 warranties etc into the future. Or if the new motors are similar in dimensions that they could drop them in and detune via software.
  15. Tesla "Brain Drain" continues - Top Tesla executive, an Elon Musk confidant, leaves the company

I disagree. I own both brands and Tesla UI has moved away from the original cohesive layout circa 2018 to bloat ware. Much prefer my Rivian.
  16. Reuters: US safety agency contacts Tesla on robotaxi issues seen in online videos

Wow, #11 could be easily avoided by retaining the ultrasonic sensors (glad my 2018 M3 has them). Contrary to what Elon and pamablama think, vision-only is an unnecessary kneecapping of the system. Use the right tool for the job!
  17. Cell reception issues

Haven't seen a difference interior of BC
  18. Tesla FSD drives down railroad tracks, gets hit by train

You are a danger to society with that kind of logic. Elon has instilled this kind of thinking in Tesla as well for "FSD". Every single person in my town that is a driver goes through at least one school zone every single day. What a stupid argument. My newly driving teenager can deal with every...
  19. Tesla FSD drives down railroad tracks, gets hit by train

You are missing the point. Majority of humans have a hard time following simple directions, and as others have mentioned, our brains are wired in such a way that taking over a task instantaneously is very difficult. My point was that it made a simple serious mistake relatively soon (I didn't...
  20. Tesla FSD drives down railroad tracks, gets hit by train

I recently had an opportunity to try FSD and thought I should so I had some sense of it. I had one critical disengagement where it wanted to turn right in front of a cyclist that had good odds of the cyclist hitting the vehicle. So in my anecdotal 30 miles of use, if I had let it, it could have...
