Charger installation costs are location specific. My electric co-op in LaPlata county Colorado covered half the cost of my installation and hardware (Rivian L2 charger, which has been great charging our R1T and Polestar 2.)
I like it. Iām currently using the Flated topper, which had been fine once I added additional weather stripping, but lockable, aerodynamic, and easier cargo access would be an improvement.
Iām sure you get āinterviewed ā as often as I do in campgrounds and charging stations. Weāre currently in your area, in Olympic National Park. Here I squeezed into the RAN in Forks. Fortunately, it was empty.
The one en route charging stop while towing out of 39 thus far (we generally charge overnight on campground NEMA-50 outlets) where we had to unhitch was at a Sonic stall in Pecos, TX. With no other options, I dropped the trailer in a truck plaza nearby.
I differ, and have a deposit down on a Pebble Flow. (just as I placed an early order on our R1T). Of course, I also want to touch the final product before purchase. Airstream (and Iām sitting in our Flying Cloud 28 which we towed here with our R1T) has little experience or expertise to...
Enjoy your new rig! We have over 5000 miles towing our Flying Cloud 28 (8000 lbs). Donāt sweat charging, I have had to unhitch only once. Just pull into the charger bank perpendicularly or at an angle. RAN trailer lanes are generally too short for us. We occasionally block a lane at Walmart...
A brief update on my Flated topper.
I added 3/4ā neoprene weather strips along the bottom where it meets the bed rails. This eliminated all water intrusion and provides more finger space for the gear tunnel and tailgate buttons. Weāre 2500 miles into our first trip with it mounted, with days of...
Youāve nailed it. Personal preference and use case value consideration. PPF holds no value in my book, but even 8% of added range towing through remote areas is important to me.
I have no regrets over my R1T Max Pack, particularly as I enjoyed early order pre-increase pricing. I discount the U-tubers who dance and wail about the added cost. This is an expensive vehicle, cost was not my primary decision factor. I appreciate the added range, especially when I am towing...
The Tesla network is technically unparalleled at this time. I maintain, however, that choice and competition are desirable, and I hope to see alternatives grow. Consider a scenario of having only one oil company operating all gasoline stations, and that oil company controlled by a single...
Personally, nothing about Tesla or itās unpredictable, unstable genius leader would relieve any anxiety, should I suffer from such. After over 9000 miles on my R1T, with over 6000 miles of towing an 8000 lb Airstream, Iām quite confident in doing without Tesla charging. Sure it might be a bit...
Yes, the trailer is plugged in and detected. Manual (not enhanced or driver assist), cruise control should function while towing, which it does for short periods before āblocked radar sensorsā cancel it.
While towing, cruise control on my R1T consistently shuts down after 10 minutes or so, with the message āRadar sensors blockedā appearing on my drivers screen. The sensors are clean - Iāve cleaned them with the same result many times. I raised this issue when I brought the truck to a service...
Well, even with a third party adapter, the unstable genius could cut off non-Tesla users on a whim. Iāve towed our Airstream over 5000 miles without a Tesla charging stop, and will continue to do so. EA has performed beautifully for us, as have EVgo, Charge Point. Francis Energy, Blink, and...
Our Polestar 2 and R1T share one Rivian charger without fighting. A second L2 charger would require another circuit. There are always the two portable chargers should the L2 fail.
Iāve had that same conversation almost verbatim numerous times. It usually ends pleasantly. I generally enjoy such interviews.
Last week, at the RAN in Barstow CA, while actively charging with our 28ā Airstream hitched a trucker from the nearby parking area walks up to me.
He: What kinda...
Varies with your place of residence and value of vehicle, of course, but insurance is up dramatically. Brace yourself, as this ramp will continue with increasing climate related disaster losses. Homeowners insurance likewise. Our long term insurer AARP / The Hartford would not even cover our...
