  1. Rivian's Future

I think Rivian will have production ramp up pains, mostly due to shaky supply chain and labor market constraints. My fingers are crossed that I'm wrong and that they'll be able to scale quickly up to max production capacity. I don't think they will have the same quality issues that Tesla has...
  2. Rivian to ramp up production to 200 a week (per Bloomberg)

I'm unclear how you got to "they haven't hit 200 a week yet" and "January was mostly a bust...." Not doubting you; I just haven't seen that info elsewhere. Curious where you are getting it. My take is that Rivian is currently producing at about 200 units/week. With some linear scaling, this...
  3. Rivian to ramp up production to 200 a week (per Bloomberg)

I'm not a Rivian apologist. They certainly should do better with communications, for example. And I wish I already had my R1T (come on March/April). But, losing faith in leadership at this point? This is a company that has raised several billion dollars in private equity, logged the single...
  4. who cares about privacy?

You're not wrong to be concerned about privacy, in general. As you intimated, however, privacy is something of an illusion in the modern world. Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Verizon, AT&T, basically every website you visit (they all use cookies)...they all represent significant data mining...
  5. Rivian R1T charging curve test 20-80% [by TFL]

No offense to any other posters on this forum, but A.J. seems to have the best grasp of this issue that I've seen so far. If you aren't an expert on this subject, I recommend you pay attention to what A.J. is saying and view the hand-wringing and arm-waving folks with some amount of skepticism...
  6. ? Update from RJ on production & deliveries -- via email letter 12/28/21

Rivian has made it clear that they are constrained by battery supply right now. This isn't surprising and will likely get worse for a while. While battery supply remains a constraint, vehicle manufacturers like Rivian will prioritize shipping more vehicles with smaller battery packs, rather than...
  7. ? Update from RJ on production & deliveries -- via email letter 12/28/21

This is finally the communication that we had all been hoping for. Not surprising that it didn't happen until after the 1st quarterly call. Hopefully this will signal the beginning of better comms going forward.
  8. Rivian Washington DC (Scouting with RJ)

Tesla and Lucid are both in Tysons, I believe. Seems like a missed opportunity.
  9. What happens to vehicles returned during Rivian's 7 day return policy window?

Wow, that does really suck. I had no idea that was going on. What a total a-hole move. It'll probably happen again, as you say. I don't anticipate worrying about the return policy though. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be excited about the product that I get. Fingers crossed. ?
  10. Full Self Driving FSD - Game Changer or Gimmick?

This. FSD can only be fully practical and safe when, really, all cars in a given traffic pattern are participating under the control of a single protocol, where all vehicles are managed using a predictable flow control approach. Introducing even a single free radical/human driver/a-hole into the...
  11. R1T is Edmunds Top Rated Editors' Choice

Agreed that Rivian is getting a lot of top cover from an almost universally enthusiastic press; but I'm not sure that will do anything to ameliorate fallout from failing to hit projected numbers. The general formula for response to a quarterly call is: 1. You hit your projected numbers, great...
  12. Toyota may be producing its own EV truck to rival Rivian.

Yep, they're not real vehicles. But the render does look good. Hopefully Toyota will follow through with some actual progress at some point.
  13. R1T is Edmunds Top Rated Editors' Choice

Awesome. Apparently this is a thing now. Get on with yourself, Edmunds. Congrats to the Rivian team again!
  14. Rivian R1T is Motortrend Truck of the Year!

Damn it, I meant to say "can't do that from a stop light in a regular operating mode." More caffeine needed.
  15. Rivian R1T is Motortrend Truck of the Year!

Note: The Hummer uses a stupid launch mode - Watts to Freedom (WTF Mode) - to get to 3 seconds flat. You can just do that from a stop light in a regular operating mode. I have to admit that I do like the name WTF Mode, though.
  16. Rivian R1T is Motortrend Truck of the Year!

IIRC the Hummer hit 0-60 in 3 seconds flat, while the R1T did it in 3.2. I don't know that I saw any MotorTrend quarter mile numbers.
  17. Rivian R1T is Motortrend Truck of the Year!

In a move that surprised no one at all, who has read any of MotorTrend's R1T coverage to date. :D Congrats to the Rivian team. What they've done so far is so impressive.
