  1. My 1,400 mile California-Oregon road trip was gloriously uneventful

My wife and I just completed a road trip from the San Francisco, CA bay region up the Highway 101 coast route to Oregon's wine country and back, around 1,400 total miles. The car routed us preferentially to RAN fast chargers, which we had largely to ourselves, plus to a few Electrify America...
  2. R3X Reveal Shocks Even More!!! ?

Nix the ugly seats, and the orange mirrors, and then add fender flares like an old group-B rally car, and I'm in! And then if someone makes a Martini livery wrap for it, I might just faint.
  3. Over 68,000 R2 reservations in less than 24 hours so far

If there are 68K reservations for the R2 to date, and 75% are existing R1 owners, then 51K existing Rivian owners put down a reservation. I think Rivian delivered around 80K R1s total, so almost 65% of R1 owners have reserved an R2?
  4. Electrify America unveils Indoor Flagship Charging Station (opened Feb 9, 2024)

I visted the SF location last night at around 10PM. Nine cars charging, so plenty of availability. The location is very convenient, and I really liked the bright and open feel, the seating, and the bathrooms. For some reason, charging was free that night, so I got $42 worth of juice for $0, and...
  5. Seventh R2 teaser photo!

    The chrome is gone! Nice!
  6. Should I return to R1T......... and Trade in 2023 Tesla Model S to lease a new R1T

ABT - anything but Tesla. If you can't get excited enough about an R1T or an R1S, try a Macan Ev Turbo to split the difference.
  7. Rear Camera Gunk?

I have the same on mine, though far less of it. I suspect that it is washer fluid that has "mineralized" on evaporation. The crusty stuff does not want to come off with even moderate scrubbing, so I'll have to try something chemical (like vinegar) to remove it - staying well away from the camera...
  8. Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack works great on R1S

The round seven-pin female "socket" is standard, and that's all we get. The Kuat rack has a "four pin" connector, thus the need for a 7-to-four "round to square" adapter.
  9. Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack works great on R1S

Looking at the first photo, upper left and upper right of the rack, each a horizontal bar about .75" high and 12" wide. It's dark gray in the photo but glows red like a brake light when illuminated. It's mounted at an angle so that it's visible with the rack folded up or down.
  10. Why vehicle roof-top solar isn't practical. (Unlimited range??)

Aptera Motors (https://aptera.us/) respectfully disagrees! With a much smaller and much more efficient EV, vehicle solar can in fact work quite well... at least in my sunny California.
  11. Snowmobile in R1T bed with deck / bed extender -- fits and performs well

The Marlon stuff looks pretty cool - not that I would know anything about the topic. People really drive around with rigs like the below? Looks scary.
  12. Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack works great on R1S

They absolutely might have a clearance problem. I didn't measure the clearance with a tape measure, but clearance with really wide handlebars, on the inside position at least, would be close at best, requiring some padding perhaps. If the MTB was a tall one, the bars might poke over the top of...
  13. Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack works great on R1S

I just added some pictures, updating the original post.
  14. Roof leak in new R1S - water dripping out of the sun visor hole

Update: I dropped the R1S at the South San Francisco Service Center. They said it might take 1-2 weeks, but called after around three days to say that the leak was fixed. It was. No leaks since.
  15. Kuat Piston Pro X hitch bike rack works great on R1S

For those folks shopping for an R1S hitch bike rack: The very expensive but truly awesome Kuat Piston Pro X fits on an R1S with no modifications required. It folds up 90 degrees for storage without touching the bodywork. Folded down, it holds our two e-Bikes with plenty of clearance between the...
  16. BMW: EV’s are Dead, buy Hydrogen Fuel Cells Vehicles

Agreed. I know someone who works in the Hydrogen industry, and they are thumbs-down on using the stuff for cars and thumbs up for industrial use.
  17. BMW: EV’s are Dead, buy Hydrogen Fuel Cells Vehicles

Hydrogen for cars? Anyone making that argument is going to struggle to do so with numbers. Environmentally, the best possible case is "green hydrogen" - hydrogen made with renewable electricity like Solar. But Turning electricity into hydrogen, refrigerating it, transporting it, then burnning...
  18. Are there any products you need for the Rivian and nobody made yet?

Some custom-fit bags for the upper part of the Frunk, for travel. Perhaps 3 bags that together fully full the frunk.
  19. Charging Regimen

Our Lithium batts don't mind sitting partially charged, unlike old NiCad batteries. So 20%-70% is OK - actually better than OK; you are being nice and gentle. I do the same. I do wonder about one thing. Lithium battery "'battery management systems" (BMSs) have a "balancer" function that...
  20. Porsche type 2 charger adapter for rivian

No adapter is required. All of the US Porsche hydrids that I know about use the same connector as the US Rivian.
