One point of interest to me. What's in North Carolina? They've never listed a facility there. NCCAR?
And coloring stuff for the kids. Wish they'd release 3D models for the big kids.
Given how anal they are about design, I suspect the cup-holders will either work great or be drastically redesigned. Molded doesn't seem like their style though. They really seem to be into space efficiency.
Is there more than one blue R1T prototype or is it just not looking as black in this light?
At least not the first generation. They were already pretty far into their own development of the F-150 EV before they invested/partnered with Rivian, I think.
They could make a stronger range argument if they brought the diesel version to the US. Looks like 870.5 miles on one tank with it. If regular gas is closer to the 2020 Disco's 18mpg for a 6 cylinder, easier access to rapid refueling might the only pro-gas arg there.
The biggest obstacles are the more general things that have been made into partisan issues:
* The validity of overwhelming global scientific consensus
* Whether it's actually a good thing that money can buy our politicians
* Whether experts should be trusted over our own gut feelings and...
I think real estate + charge time is a part of it. 30-50 minute stops in a couple spaces at a station that's built around catering to 5-minute stops is probably a less profitable use of the space than it would be if there were a restaurant in the equation. It's also been a fairly rapidly...
Interesting idea. I would think center of gravity for the different chassis designs might be a problem though. An ICE drive-train needs to be a lot higher than an EV. Even if Rivian was game, you might find your old chassis getting tore up in ways that never happened before. I am not even...
It's a modular platform. They can do things like swap different kinds of motors and suspensions in and out of it. I'm not sure how they get different wheelbases (maybe swap battery beds out?) but I think they stuck with the same platform for the van.
You're not wrong about testing but I suspect...
Well, that's encouraging. But yeah, I suspect they won't be making many promises about anything until we at least have an idea of when this thing is going to be over. Encouraging to see them releasing new video content though.
Subs could be nice for keeping up with current tech but I'll...
Yes. I probably shouldn't have left it unsaid that it's nice to have an order for 100,000 delivery vans when you probably don't even have that many preorders yet. Not that closer to 50k preorders at 1k a pop wouldn't be a great start.
I'm thinking for me maybe 3... hours? If there's a GPS flashlight tracking option, I might actually invest in that. "Classic Launch Edition R1T WITH THE LEGIT FLASHLIGHT" might actually become something Jay Leno's progeny is looking for one day.
Also, how long will this flashlight stay on...
I doubt they have 100k preorders, it's not like amazon isn't giving them a ton of money, and this is an excellent opportunity to demo how fast and effectively they can design and start building a fleet vehicle with their skateboard strategy. If Ford starts using their skateboard for any of their...
It bugs me that everybody gloms on to tank turn without paying attention to all the other juicy stuff about having a motor-per-wheel Rivian is leveraging.
