You aren't wrong, many cars draw air through the seat as you say.
It is mostly a cost thing:
seats that actually blow cold air require Ducting from under the dash down under the carpet and duct into the seats themselves.
vs Fans in the seat that just need 12V power which it already has.
On paper:
Single motor FWD vs dual motor FWD
lighter weight, newer more efficient design, improved thermals
You would think that that stuff would equate to real world effeciency improvements
Are you driving in conserve mode with air suspension lowered? Or are you towing a barn behind you?
Speed is the main factor.. after 55 is when the Rivian falls off a cliff because of Aero.
If you're flying down TX roads at 85 you're definitely going to be draining that battery fast
on paper the 315 miles of range out of a 121 Kwh usable battery is 2.6 mi/kwh
When I'm driving at city speeds...
Interesting, totally not what I expected,
Do you find the R1T more efficient than the S?
My QM R1T has 21's and I took off the aero covers day 1.. I Drive around in All purpose mode all the time minus long drives. I don't hyper mile or try to drive super efficient at all.
I am averaging 2.4...
I'm a little suprised your dual motor only achieved 2.11m/kwh
I was under the impression the Dual motors were much more effecient than QM.
were your average speeds pretty high on the Freeways?
The fact that it says 2024.19 and there is no 19.X after it
I wonder how many minor revisions there will be before it trickles down to official version.
I might be in the minority but I don't like the Ascend interior (or at least offer it in darker wood colors) and hope they eventually decouple the drivetrain from interior, for those who want adventure interior tri motor for example.
The new dash reminds me of:
and the new seats:
Remind me of:
I assume the Suspension pick up points are all the same, and in theory the new spring/airbags could be swapped over.
I'm worried about hydraulic proportioning valves/system being a big change but let's say you leave that part Gen1 and only change the rest.
Assuming you swapped all the hardware...
I bought this one and it's a perfect fit for the front windshield. and even wraps around the rear view mirror:
it folds and fits in a dinner plate sized bag that I throw in the lower cubby area or wedge between the seat and center console on passenger side...
Took the words right out of my mouth,
I thought the launch mode was just a software/visual representation/confirmation of something that we could already do anyway
I dunno if there's a new IMU or something that they're using for the 0-60/telemetry stuff and not just the wheel encoders.
That's what I thought too, some "leaks" they allow and others they keep under tight wraps.
From the posts above they have already had 3-4 internal betas being tested internally.
perhaps they skipped the ElectraFi guys all together and will go gold soon. Perhaps there will be a larger group beta...
I pondered the approach/departure angles as well..
I dunno if it's something to do with the new wheel/tire choices, or they profiled the lower parts of the bumper differently now:
as for R1S fording, I doubt it's related to the wheelbase, I wonder what is in the back "3rd row" area that would...
Water fording is down from 43.1 to 39"
As for towing, it depends on your use case really..
if you tow your boat to nearby lake you don't need a ton of range, but you do need capacity.
For long distance towing, it is the aerodynamic profile that has a huge impact on the range more than just...
Worse ground clearance
Significantly Worse water fording capabilities
Smaller frunk
Smaller trunk (R1S)
Smaller gear tunnel
Significant degrade in towing capacity on dual motor
Basically it's like the Porsche Cayenne. Early models were proper utility and off-road machines.
Overtime cut cost...
Can you ask him if they started a closed beta going forward so that it doesn’t show up early anymore? or is this only because of the new refresh that it was extra stealthy?
In my Audi Etron prior to my R1T:
If you are parallel parked and there are cars driving by, the door light bar goes red to warn you of danger similar to blind spot warning.
Owned many cars in my life but my Rivian is the first to do this.. I dunno if its a bug or a feature/side effect but:
In my cars when it's not hot enough to use A/C I usually like to turn the re-circ off and turn the fan on to lowest speed (1 below off) to just kind of circulate air in the cab...
