I saw one for the first time (in person) this morning and have to admit that it actually looked better in person than in the pictures -- granted, that's a pretty low bar to clear.
Would I ever buy one? No chance. Would I drive one for a month instead of the Rivian if someone offered that to me...
F-250 curb weight tops out at 7,660lbs (heavier than a R1) and I've never seen or heard of any weight concerns with those being in parking decks (granted height is another story).
Would be extremely tempted to buy & garage this if it goes for a reasonable price, but worry about maintaining the charge on the batteries with how rarely I would drive it.
FYI - there's no title so can't be registered for street use in most states (but there are also work arounds for those...
Problem there is that a knife can't cut through the glove, but a pair of bolt cutters will take the finger off (glove & all) and these charging cables are being cut with something much bigger than a knife. It's extremely difficult to make something really "cut resistant" at scale, and that...
I didn't follow 100% of everything in this thread, but I personally could care less about the underlying architecture but I do hope they will offer some sort of path to upgrade the compute hardware (like Tesla does) if that ultimately becomes a necessity to enable additional Driver+ features...
This is something I've ranted about numerous times. It's so seemingly minor (and presumably easy to integrate since the charge door is powered already), but infuriating to have to unlock the truck just to tap the charging port and then immediately re-lock.
That said, I'd be shocked if this...
At the risk of raising a serious question in this thread, are Tesla Superchargers price competitive anywhere?
The convenience / availability is definitely unrivaled and I'm very excited to have the option regardless of cost, but in my area the Superchargers are just insanely overpriced compared...
I would honestly probably bail on the VIN and ask to be reassigned to the next available.
Sure, Rivian should be able to get it back to factory specs before delivery, but it's always going to be on the back of your mind now that you know it happened & I'd personally want more piece of mind when...
Tesla offers upgrades (and pretty reasonably priced, I believe as well -- couple thousand max). If needed to support hands free, that should definitely be doable by Rivian as well.
R3X priority will only be available to R1 owners who also purchase an R2 (kidding, of course).
Check your Rivian account - as long as you used the same email, the R2 reservation should show up on the left tab (indicating everything is linked up correctly).
They offered me the removal of the front 12v outlet, removal of the frunk 12v outlet, and removal of the wood trim behind front seats, and upgrade to replace the Meridian sound system to the in-house audio system, all for $0 on my LE.
Needless to say, I jumped on it before they changed their minds.
I'm not cross shopping the R1S with a CRV sized vehicle, and I suspect that very few other people will either. The R1 is, and is always going to be, a lower volume vehicle. The R2 is intended to be far more mass market.
Most automakers share common design language across their lineups, and...
Aside from connecting / testing to make sure it worked at delivery (and realizing it's as quiet as a church mouse), I've used mine exactly zero times in 10 months.
Plenty of room in the R1 for a real portable speaker (like a JBL PartyBox) if I need music I can actually hear outdoors.
Guilty as charged! Think I hit the steering wheel button backing up and got the very bottom lip as it was coming down - knocked it off the tracks and then rolled down a little which is why the scratches / paint are where they are on the car.
Fortunately did basically zero damage to garage door...
Excellent advice, really appreciate that & will give it a shot. And yes, the metal was painted so I do believe some of that is likely transfer (it sort of slid / rolled across the impacted area which is why there are numerous streaks).
Not inclined to dump a bunch of $$ into this since it's...
Unfortunate incident this weekend that involved a piece of metal scratching up the black panel above the rear window.
Nothing awful / all cosmetic so debating just applying some touch-up paint & moving along since it's still just a truck at the end of the day, but bothers me a little bit just...
