  1. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

Also worth mentioning that training data alone does not make a good ADAS system. I would not be surprised if most of an ADAS system's performance is dependent on simulated data. Waabi is doing self driving trucks and they are using almost 100% simulation for training Also worth mentioning...
  2. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

rivian gen 2 licensed a more expensive mobileye system that supports 360 rivian gen 1 can probably do these things too but rivian doesn't want to spend any resources into developing it. Besides, tesla did it 10 years ago with autopilot 1 which was also a mobileye product. What caused mobileye...
  3. No Longer Wish to Use Tesla Supercharger Network

tesla generally does not pay for land. At first they do the opposite and ask the site owners to pitch in for the superchargers to be built. After that, they offer rent free. Only the 3rd time do they offer to pay but it is not much. The idea is they could simply go somewhere else in a heartbeat...
  4. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

Might very well be true. For level 3 you need to impose speed caps and also detect a lead car from a reasonable distance. Tesla FSD E2E has about the least control you can imagine. It drives one speed and you have to accept the speed it drives. Turning on the turn signal does not even cause the...
  5. Which ADAS is Really Driving? It’s Mobileye!

Rivian might not be doing AI for their self driving. You might not have the control to do level 3 driving.
  6. Infotainment Performance (Blind Spot Camera Lag and More)

rivian also probably lags because the entire system is poorly designed. They are using unreal engine for rendering all the 3d. Significantly more performant to build your own operating system and rendering engine If you've ever used a tesla with the new rear screen you can literally run...
  7. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

you do realize that hands off is nothing other than not having your hands on the wheel? It's not that the car drives any differently. Rivian can't do hands off in Gen 1 because they planned on computing the interior cam with the infotainment CPU and that small amount of computer vision is beyond...
  8. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

it's reliable enough in that they tested two cars side-by-side. One with a supposedly higher efficiency number yet did not show it. In fact all teslas you find in 2024 and 2025 beat the EPA numbers. I suspect whatever they were using to get better EPA figures has been changed
  9. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

exactly my point. real world testing from out of spec shows the model 3 at 4.8mi/kwh at 70mph. Same test shows the ioniq 6 (which on paper beats the tesla) at only 4.3 mi/kwh. Other tests of the 2025 lucid air pure report at 70mph a figure of 4.2mi/kwh which shows that lucid optimizes their...
  10. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

If tesla self reports their range estimations, how come the model 3 LR RWD is the most efficient electric vehicle on the market? Yet if looking at range figures and EPA tests you would assume that title belongs to either the ioniq 6 or the lucid air pure.
  11. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

if you're gonna go there, how many charging stations did rivian say they were going to build? Rivian also says the R2 will cost $45K. You think they can make it for that price when they can't make a gross profit on a $100K SUV? They have to rely on energy credits to do so. Rivian also lied...
  12. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

cybertruck went through NHTSA testing. And it also got the highest safety score for any truck. Doesn't mean anything Tesla also has the record score for the euro NCAP because they have automatic emergency braking systems that others won't have for 10 years
  13. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

learn the difference between FSD and autopilot. Autopilot is a years old software from 2017 and earlier. Secondly autopilot does not ping pong. It is one of the straightest ADAS systems you can buy in a car. It drives dead centered with the negative being that it takes curves at "full" speed...
  14. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

because I never paid for FSD. I was not one of the idiots that believed that FSD was around the corner. But I am very happy with the way FSD performs now and they have built features that rivian or other cars won't have for 10 years because of it. Tesla's auto emergency braking system/accident...
  15. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

Mach e is garbage. I did not buy that EV. Model 3 is a good EV The mach E bluecruise is actually quite good but I do not have bluecruise on that model. It was given to me and I would not buy the car otherwise. Select mach e is even worse.
  16. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

the point of this thread is whether rivian has a good system and whether they lied about what they had. They did. how can you sell a vertically integrated, "advanced," truck of the future with a poor adas system. You can't. Lucid has a poor adas system too but it is at least built to be upgraded.
  17. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

The claim is that rivian's ADAS system is unusable and one anecdote means nothing Try comma.ai, bluecruise, supercruise, or something similar and experience a good system for once.
  18. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

tesla sold that explicit line item for self driving for a very brief period of time. Mostly what tesla has sold to consumers has been delivered more than has been promised. So if self driving ever does happen, I would guess it is just cheaper to give you a new car at that point. The amount of...
  19. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

Because you're looking for it to be usable. I drove a 2020 toyota corolla which has no auto lane keeping system for 100 miles with no intervention. Because I realized it was a lane centering assist, put a steering wheel weight on there and found a straight road with good markings in florida...
  20. Reminder: Rivian Promised Level 3 "Eyes Off the Road" Autonomy on Gen 1

A tally is just a random anecdote from one person who is trying to not disengage for every little thing. With FSD you could go 1 year without ever touching the steering wheel or pedals as long as you avoid driving through a school zone during the proper hours. That doesn't mean it doesn't do...
