It's going to be VERY close. There are a couple of hurdles that whether or not we can resolve are a bit of an unknown right now, but I'm optimistic. For example, the 90-degree steering lockout which prevents us from using autosteering on any turn that requires the steering wheel to turn more...
It will also give us access to the blind spot monitoring radar so that we can do nudgeless lane changes without changing lanes into another car. Lukas has also gotten access to a third can bus with the secondary port, but we don't know if there's anything useful on there yet.
You don't need all these steps. Especially you don't need to enable experimental mode (or dynamic experimental) unless you REALLY want to for some reason. But it's not a very good experience so I don't recommend it.
This is all you need to do:
Developer -> Enable "sunnypilot Longitudinal...
Openpilot actually doesn’t tell the car whether to press the brake or not. Basically Openpilot just requests an acceleration value, positive or negative, and the car does the rest. So whether or not the brakes are being pressed is using the same logic the Rivian ACC would use. It’s just that...
Yes, we would need to utilize the secondary USB port on the Comma for the additional signals for steering wheel button controls and blind spot monitoring, but you can still use the Chun mount. I just have an additional magnetic connector on the secondary port so it's still easy to take on and...
I use the Chun mount no problem. Go ahead and install it. As brancky said above, the mount doesn't affect control at all - it just makes it more convenient to take on and off the windshield.
Pretty much, though just to nitpick #3, the software options would be vanilla (or stock) Openpilot, Sunnypilot (MADS is a feature of Sunnypilot), or Lukas' fork of Sunnypilot which adds Openpilot Longitudinal support for Rivians with on-screen set-speed buttons instead of using the steering...
LOL. Maybe in the eventual movie it can be written that way. Lukas is the developer that did the work to port Openpilot for Rivian, as well as designed the wiring harness to make it all work. The Red Panda (and other Panda variants) are what allow the Comma 3X to communicate with the car.
As...
Also keep in mind that the rear view mirror trim that houses the Rivian's mobileye windshield camera is slightly off center towards the right. Make sure when you mount your comma 3x that you center it on the little hump that leads to the rear view mirror.
If you do that, then the comma will be...
No, the price difference is because Lukas basically hand-builds his harnesses whereas Comma has their mass-produced. Lukas can also ship his harnesses right away while there is still a backorder wait time for the Comma harnesses.
Lukas' harness DO have the secondary port already built in so...
Yup, unless someone develops a dual USB magnetic mount. I have gerryrigged a system that still uses a magnetic connection at the second USB port so it's not ENTIRELY bad, but definitely not as convenient as it used to be.
Just an FYI - you don't NEED the first part of the URL. Recent update to AGNOS made that unnecessary. You can just type in: lukasloetkolben/rivian-long-sunny
Makes it easier on our fingers.
Hmmm... Lukas might have disabled it for this build then until we get the button presses working. What you MIGHT be able to do is toggle on "Sunnypilot Longitudinal" in the developer menu, and just keep it on long enough to change the driving personality. I do think it will let you change it...
