Very true. The reason they don't do this is $$. Rivian wants to develop their own system so they can be in control of it and sell it to other manufacturers (like VW Group).
Actually, Aptera is an example of a manufacturer that IS using Openpilot as their ADAS solution when (or really IF) they...
Hey Doc! I have a Chun mount as well so I'll let you know if I run into any issues. I don't forsee clearance being an issue, just the minor annoyance of having two cables running to the comma instead of one. And hopefully I can still gerryrig a magnetic solution so taking it on and off is...
I second this. The Chun mount is awesome. Makes taking it down and putting it back up a breeze.
Unfortunately the harness mod will make things a bit more complicated since we have to use another USB-C cable to plug into the secondary port in the Comma, but I think I can use a magnetic USB-C...
I'll be honest, Openpilot and Comma can have a tendency to hug the left or right of a lane as well. But, at least with Openpilot, there is a pathway to being able to self-remedy that. Some forks had a user-selectable offset to allow you to manually center your vehicle in the lane more to your...
It's held up fine so far! I do take down the Comma on particularly hot days if I can't park in the shade, but I think it'd hold up even if I didn't do that.
As far as I know, Beartech is just the manufacturer of a particular magnetic mount accessory for the Comma 3X. The Comma discord is, of course, the OG discord destination for Openpilot/Comma discussion.
Essentially, this will replace the portion of the harness that includes the harness box. The new section will feature an extra plug for an additional Red Panda, giving us access to another bus. That also means we’ll need to run an extra USB-C cable to the secondary port on the Comma.
Interesting! I haven't experienced any phantom braking using OP Longitudinal. The distance between the lead car when stopping is definitely an issue, and it's a Rivian-specific issue that will be addressed soon.
I think you could say it's only necessary if you want to be able to change set speed with the steering wheel controls. It will also give us access to the blind spot radar which, while not required for OP Longitudinal, is still useful in its own right.
Honestly, if you're just interested in...
Both Lukas' and Comma's harness will be able to be modified and doesn't require removal of the harness to do the update, so no need to wait if you want to get started. I'll be posting a video about the harness mod here in the next week most likely. We're just starting to do the testing today.
It's pretty easy to install - when you're installing new software on the Comma, just select "Custom Software" instead of "Openpilot" and enter the following path:

Here's a video of it in action, albeit a slightly out-of-date version. A few features have been...
