the fact that they put controls where a canopy might attach to the bed, is a big oversight in and of itself. its a solvable problem for the 3rd part canopy companies though. I just hope there is enough interest that they actually make them. with traditional truck OEMs, you know there is going to...
yes aero definitely becomes more important as speed increases. but if you are changing speed a lot, accelerating and decelerating, for example, any city driving, or trail driving with a lot of elevation changes, you'll notice lighter wheels and tires very easily.
There is a reason there is a...
Actually, four high quality light weight forged off road wheels, and four good quality all terrain tires, that could easily cost more than $3000. If you are really after quality, it could be closer to $7-10k. You'd have far better equipment than OEM though.
if you go with something like this, a...
making an object rotate takes a lot more energy than moving a static object. im no physicist and i couldn't give you the exact calculations, but its well known that rotating mass has a much higher moment of inertia and takes significantly more energy than you would expect. It is quite common, in...
R1S does have a lot of covered cargo room, but its more delicate than a truck bed. I wouldn't want to scuff up the inside of my R1S with dirty tools, gear, dogs, etc. A canopy covered truck bed is a luxury and something i'd never go without. Growing up, my dad always had a canopy covered truck...
I haven't seen much discussion on this. If I'm buying an adventure truck with a short bed, i want a fiberglass canopy by someone like Leer or ARE. Why not make the power retracting cover optional instead of standard on the adventure trim? And for that matter, how long do you think it will take...
we need official wheel weights. the 22s give a ten percent penalty. those in search of max range from the large pack will want to know how much all the wheels weigh. if the 20" wheels weigh significantly less than the 21's, then max range will be achieved with the 20's, and the tires switched...
you are correct, however that's only true for constant speed driving. wheel weight matters more the more you are stopping and accelerating. Regen doesn't recapture all the energy, so wheel weight still matters. Look at the range hit for the 22s. it's 10 percent. that's all wheel weight.
i think what we need are official wheel weights.
wheel weight has a massive effect on energy consumption.
I'd love to see what the 20" forged wheels weigh vs the cast 21 and 22s.
i can see people ordering the stock 21" road wheels to save money now, and upgrading to much lighter/better forged...
They are beating the snot out of that thing. I love seeing real physical evidence that these vehicles are being stress tested to the max, not driven around some pre-designed "proving ground" with a few puddles and speed bumps. This footage is very confidence inspiring.
it actually is a big ask, because if they got into direct competition with GM/Ford with a full size pickup, they'd be undercut on price. Heck, they're already competing in the mid-size pickup space and you can bet GM 100% has an electric colorado coming soon and there is no way its going to be...
I think if the demand is high enough, they'll probably offer it at some point, but not right away.
I wonder if the upcoming GM and Ford electric trucks will offer different bed sizes, or if they will only offer one option to start with.
Eventually someone will make a long bed electric pickup...
Depends what you are going for. Getting up rocky trails to remote sites, putting your drift boat in the river at muddy launches, obviously AT. Taking the kids to school and daily driver? A/S. But they are designing these to be seriously capable, if thats all you're going to do then you don't...
just remember, everyone driving an EV in southern california who charges at night is charging on nearly 100% fossil fuels. Sure its still better than driving around millions of individual combustion engines, but still. There are a lot of extremely smug people in SoCal who think they are doing so...
be careful with these things. PPF is not a magic barrier and it can create more problems. First of all its 3-4k to get an entire vehicle professionally wrapped. Then, rocks still gouge paint through a PPF. If you really get some rocks up on your front end, a PPF is not going to stop them. Also...
See I'm the opposite. I think life on earth will adapt and change, but they can't do that if they can't get up the dammed river :) Just look at the persian gulf coral, which are able to thrive in very hot ocean conditions. I also happen to think the dire predictions of global climate catastrophe...
Hydroelectric power is not green. The dams on the columbia river have collectively decimated an entire ecosystem and brought food species such as chinook salmon, which at one time existed in numbers that could feed hundreds of thousands of people every year, almost to the brink of extinction...
37 here. I'm a family physician, and live in a rural area in WA state. I have two young kids. I'm interested in the R1S. I just need a nice rugged SUV for all-purpose life duty, whether its road trips into the city 100 miles away, going to the beach with the family, or even hauling my small...
I see what they're doing and I get why they are starting small. I just think a full size Rivian would be awesome and I'd almost rather buy one from Rivian and not GM/Ford. I also think Rivian, if they want to become a major player, eventually needs to eschew the "yuppie" brand image. If they are...
I'm only here for the R1S. I see absolutely no point of a pickup truck with a 55" bed. I already own a Silverado double cab with a standard 6.5ft bed. I can do pretty much everything with that size, plywood, appliances, loads of dirt, bed full of camping gear, firewood, furniture purchase or...
