I still don't even know what that means but I know I always hear people saying such and such a truck can't be used like a truck. Feel like that probably means different things to different people and if anyone isn't doing the same things with their truck as you are it's easy to say they're not...
Don't laugh so much about the 2022, he's just excited for the order and probably has not been following everything as closely as everyone else.
Realistic expectations for a new R1S order is that nobody has any idea :) The R1T is now in production but fairly limited. We're hoping there are...
If you zoom on on this it seems like there's a track for the second row to slide forward.

There's also the new folding animation. Presumably it's some combo of both like other 7 row...
Plastic skid plates seems odd since they'd have had the offroad package, unless it's another "pre production hand wave" thing. My understanding was the base skid plates are plastic and probably fine if not offroading but with the package they're reinforced like the battery protection.
Not directly mentioned yet I think are potential battery/charging/range issues that we don't know much about yet, since info so far is so limited. If real life range is closer to 200ish given relatively common conditions/options, and it takes an hour+ at a charger to get 10-80% or whatever...
The R1T is just starting production. Total numbers so far are still less than 100 produced/delivered. R1S hasn't entered production yet; estimate to start is December, but even if they make that it will probably be a slow ramp up. By now they might have ~50k reservations (some split between...
I will add that post purchase experience (and even purchase) at the dealership played no small part in not really considering a Lighting to replace my F150, or a MachE vs a Y. There's lots to love about them but the dealership isn't one of them. Yeah, who knows with Rivian yet, but at least...
Somewhat off topic but since you asked, not me, but I picked up a my Y yesterday. My fiancé has a Model 3 so I was already somewhat familiar, but I already love the Y even more. I picked LR with Gemini so I can't attest to anything related to a Performance, or bigger wheel upgrades (thus less...
My understanding is Driver+ is "hands free" like Tesla's autopilot or Blue Cruise is "hands free" -- basically all have the intention of being good lane keep assist, drive hands free on highways ,etc. Level 2.
The S1 10000 option talks about autonomous level 3 which is more akin to Tesla full...

Rivian Driver+ is standard on every vehicle we build. Delivering true hands-free driving assistance along with our full set of safety features, the system continually adds functionality through over-the-air updates. By making Driver+ standard, our goal is to...
I don't want to beat any horses but isn't that also what Driver+ is? And I don't know if you saw the Sandy Munro video about Blue Cruise but I'm not sure how hands off it is yet. Granted there's not a lot of detail on Driver+ yet either.
The base underbody/battery protection can support the weight of the truck on a 2 inch square. The optional package is for matching front/rear skid plates but from what I take away from that conversation, doesn't add anything for the main underbody.
Right, only saying that for your comparison's sake, Driver+ seems comparable to Blue Cruise and is included vs the 2k option. The later 10k option is different unless I'm misunderstanding.
On your list I'm not sure if you're trying to balance against each other, but a lot of your Rivian cons for example would apply to both.
> $1800 for AT tires and 20s is a rip off. $800 for a spare is as well.
Seems high but depends on quality I guess, I see ford 18->20 as $1395 so is "close"

For what it's worth my situation is a little different but have been having roughly the same debate for a while. Don't know if it's the best/right/whatever decision but I pick up the Model Y today, and will wait and see how the R1S turns out. I can be happy with the Model Y and my old truck...
Because there are so many variables, and the only thing Rivian has said is around 50%, and there is no real data yet(from R1Ts), using it as a hopefully pessimistic expectation means that ideally most people are surprised when real life turns out better.
