I switched from LE R1T to LE R1S a couple weeks ago.
I talked to Rivian about it and my understanding is the initial windows were just computer produced estimates based on area and order date, nothing more.
As they actually produce batches of cars they'll choose how many they want to send to...
Some real concerns there. I can only hope the R1T/R1S doesn't go the way of the iPace.. immense early hype, excellent all around car, completely crippled by poor range/charging/software.
Whenever a company says "oh we'll just OTA fix it!" my immediate reaction is "if it's that easy to fix...
Why would that be weird? There are how many reservations and how many forum members?
OP it'd help if you mention whether your spot is for a Launch Edition or not. Most will want a LE spot.
Why is Rivians value proposition better? Because you personally like Rivian better? $73k doesn't include leather... does Rivian offer leather at all? You can call it "Vegan leather" to sound cool but it's not a special material.
It's all in the eye of the buyer. If nothing else.. being made by...
I certainly think there will be peaks and valleys. I agree the very first adopters will likely get excellent service, but I anticipate it getting bogged down as they ramp up production.
Of course the service could end up being excellent all around but we just don't know and really won't know...
2%-3% in 30ish degree / hour sounds right. Maybe up to 5% around zero. Of course you're in a bad situation of "how far to a charger". On highways they are definitely designed/spaced for summer driving.
There's nothing in that video an AWD Tesla w winter tires wouldn't easily handle. This "the Rivian will do things no other car can do!!" hype is very Tesla esque.
Would have been the same result in an R1T. Ice + all seasons + hill + bad driver = no car saving you.
I've seen plenty of Teslas blasting around on Winter tires during the snowstorm without any problems.
I looked into this earlier and the short answer is it probably won't fit.
Standard ride height has the R1S at 72". The tent is listed at 16" tall when packed, plus add the rail height. I believe you can lower the R1S a couple inches but that's still not enough.
What's the point of that article?
I like to make fun of Tesla as much as anyone but Rivian & Lucid go to sleep at night dreaming they'll have half the success of Tesla. So far they're just companies selling promises, hopefully they start selling cars soon!
I will be directly cross-shopping with the EV Macan and Polestar 3, assuming Polestar can get a better grasp on battery tech.
While I think the R1T/S are just about alone in a very specific niche, I also believe many (maybe most?) buyers won't actually use the full off-roading capability or 3rd...
Meh. The problem with these youtube reviewers is every time they drive a new EV they claim it's the new best car. Even the major publications tend to do the same.
You can watch all of his EV videos in order and each time he'll say it's the best EV available. I don't think many of these...
I really doubt it. You're going to pay taxes, registration, etc.. and hope there is a market for a used EV. As soon as there are 1,000 or so Rivians sold they'll start popping up used at dealerships when they get traded in by people that realize they aren't actually ready for an EV.
People see...
Yes, the people that have received cars so far have paid what's listed on the configurator or less, at least in terms of listed sale price. Now if any additional fees were tacked on is a different story.
If Rivian was selling cars above configurator price without updating the configurator it'd...
Hopefully we get some more precise details. Obviously if the Rivian can't make a 180-200 mi round ski trip without charging it'll rule it out for a lot of people. That's a pretty basic goal.
*edit* found the post
Someone in Chicago said 280 miles of range in 18-22 degree weather.
Neither poster put kWh/100 mi or any details beyond that on conditons, so not very useful IMHO. Anytime someone posts without the efficiency number and details it isn't reliable info.
They use the phrase...
I don't see any significant price increase for pre-order holders.
Rivian is trying to play the long game and while a price increase might net them some additional profits, the bad feelings it would generate would almost certainly dwarf them.
The reality is Rivian is well behind on their...
Interesting comparison given the Q8 is currently scheduled for 2026 and the eTron is notorious for having absolutely dreadful range.
There is competition coming out but that's not it. You have tons of electric trucks but offroad focused electric SUVs with decently sized batteries? Not a ton...
