  1. Michelin Defender tires installed on 20" wheels

The Defenders do have a max PSI of 80, but Rivian recommends 48psi on the 20's, and that's what the tire shop set them at. The ride is a little softer than on the stock Pirelli A/T. Not a whole lot softer, but enough to notice right away after they switched tires.
  2. Seattle eastside: any alignment shops familiar with Rivians?

Rivian didn't give a reason, but when I asked about an alignment at a lower suspension level they just said "We don't do that" and advised me to drive mostly at Standard height to reduce tire wear. They did give a reason for that - Standard is where the tires are straightest. Yeah, thanks, I...
  3. Seattle eastside: any alignment shops familiar with Rivians?

Tire wear is indeed the main issue I'm worried about, and what I hoped an alignment would fix. I assumed that was the whole point of an alignment...but I really don't know how alignments work, and I imagine there is some limit to adjustability. Hopefully the Rivian techs will let me know if an...
  4. Seattle eastside: any alignment shops familiar with Rivians?

I had not asked the Rivian Service Center, though I just did - if nothing else, maybe they could give me a reason why this is a bad idea. My assumption is that they'll only do alignments to "factory specs", which means doing it at Standard Height. But I could be wrong, so it's worth asking...
  5. Seattle eastside: any alignment shops familiar with Rivians?

I have two questions, but first some background: I don't think there's any problem with my R1S' alignment. But Rivian does the alignment at Standard height (or so I've heard), and things get progressively off as you raise or lower the suspension - which makes the tires wear faster. That's OK if...
  6. Poor efficiency on R1S?

Regen is indeed "better" in the sense that it's better to recover some energy rather than use it all to heat up your brake pads. If you have to slow down (the key phrase), regen is way better than braking. Around-town efficiency would be even worse if we didn't have regen. But you're still...
  7. Washington Camp Speaker Drawer by David

I bought one, and love it. I mentioned it HERE. I am glad to hear it is PETG rather than PLA! Not long after David shipped a drawer to me he got his own Rivian, and realized he could make it latch with a small change. He met me to give me a free upgraded version. I appreciated that!
  8. Poor efficiency on R1S?

I agree with the others...based on my experience with other EVs and with my R1S (around 1.7 on short around-town trips, but I saw 2.5 on a freeway trip) that short trips really hurt efficiency because of the start-up costs. Once you are going, as you've no doubt heard, speed matters a lot -...
  9. Has anyone received their refund for an amended 2022 federal tax return?

Another successful tax credit claim. Some others have taken a lot longer than this, some a lot less: 6/8 - R1S purchased 6/8 - '22 amendment filed via FreeTaxUSA. Asked for direct deposit (but they ain't doing that) 6/8 - IRS status checking page showed "Received" 8/11 - Status showed "Adjusted"...
  10. Rivian R1T Dual-Motor Large Pack Gets Over 350 Miles Range (Official EPA Figures Posted)

Adding to what R1Thor said...the utility-vs-pricing delta between the Large and Max packs is telling us that they would strongly prefer us to buy the Large pack. Two possible reasons: as R1Thor said, it's not just a few more materials, it's a lot more work to build the Max version while keeping...
  11. Towing + Efficiency: Please post your experience!

I will try to report more towing numbers under different conditions, but we don't currently have any trips planned, and when my wife goes on her own it's hard to get her to remember to reset the trip meter and take a picture at the end. We don't really go off-road, so that wasn't a...
  12. Got to love it!

I reported an A2124 towing result in THIS thread.
  13. How much does running the AC reduce range in a Rivian?

TL/DR: It's complicated. But in general, cabin AC isn't a huge hit, at least not if you're doing a long freeway drive where you are most likely to be concerned about range. Heat in winter is a larger concern. OCD: I haven't done any measurements in my Rivian, but I have done some in past EVs...
  14. Michelin Defender tires installed on 20" wheels

I can't say the difference because I didn't have the original ATs long and didn't run any tests with them. But in post 105 I gave some efficiency results with the Defenders. 2.12mi/kWh at 75mph - that's a range of about 271 miles? (I did 7% better than that with some aero inserts in the wheels...
  15. 12 v in dash

Yep. I just bought one of THESE for less than $13, and now I have a 12V outlet under the dash. (Not neatly mounted like WattTruckMatt's frunk outlet, but maybe that's next. Or maybe I'll just leave it stuffed behind the dash. At least I now have options...)
  16. Towing + Efficiency: Please post your experience!

To be able to use our 12V rear-view camera while towing, in spite of having a more-recent R1S that only has a 12V outlet in the very back of the vehicle, I bought one of THESE. Plug it in to the OBD port (very easy to access, above the driver's right foot rest) and you have a 12V power outlet...
  17. The first (and only) Aero Spoke Inserts for Rivian R1T / R1S 20" All-Terrain Wheels!

No, I haven't noticed any noises from the inserts. There are two things (EDIT: three!) that I mentioned earlier, but I'd like to call out again as they may (? or may not) explain some of the differences between my numbers and those that others have seen. One is that I tested on an R1S, and some...
  18. Michelin Defender tires installed on 20" wheels

I only had my All-Terrain tires for a short time, and didn't run any tests with them - so I can't compare their performance to the Michelin Defenders. But I did recently run an efficiency test on the Defenders. Here are my results - if (?) anyone with All-Terrains is seeing worse numbers under...
  19. The first (and only) Aero Spoke Inserts for Rivian R1T / R1S 20" All-Terrain Wheels!

With that assumption in mind, I did my own test. Some of the test runs that others have posted here (thanks!) are disappointing - I bought these inserts to get an aero improvement; if they really make things worse I want to send them back. But I didn't want to send them back until I tried them...
  20. The first (and only) Aero Spoke Inserts for Rivian R1T / R1S 20" All-Terrain Wheels!

Riviot raised the question about whether the aero inserts may work best at a specific speed. That's an interesting question - in general I assume that anything that lowers drag is going to have a larger effect at higher speeds. However, I suppose it's possible that turbulent flows around a...
