  1. R1S loaner won’t go over 80 mph, shows “80 mph max” on screen.

I heard a radio interview with Mario Andretti. He said, “Do you know what they call slow drivers in the left lane of the Autobahn? American drivers!”
  2. Socket "two" me - more better: installed 12 volt outlets under the dash

My guesses are supply chain issues, or cost cutting by a bean counter who never wore hiking boots.
  3. Rivian Zonal Electrical Architecture Explained -- Popular Science

Interesting, but the actual Rivian wiring diagram is as elusive as the Voynich Manuscript - and the disappearance of the dash/frunk 12 volt supply.
  4. No More Unlock Owl Sound?

The audio feed from Schrödinger's cat.
  5. Off-roading the Alpine Loop, Colorado. R1S 360 4K

Great video! Well done! Another nice trek is the Last Dollar Road from Highway 62 to Telluride. Beginner to intermediate off-road trail (depending on weather) with fantastic scenery. https://www.colorado.com/articles/colorado-hidden-gem-last-dollar-road
  6. Does anyone else find the new side camera views distracting and useless?

I use it on occasion when I'm concerned about something close to the vehicle. I have the same feature on my Kia EV6 GT-L that I've had for two-and-half years so it is second nature. I ignore it when I don't need it.
  7. Fort Bragg Camping Trip - 2mi/Kwh pulling my camp trailer

The GPS routing can be hit and miss. I use RAN whenever possible and EA if necessary. I pre-plan any trip with a ABRP and PlugShare to see what's working. There is a Tesla charger in Williams - adapter needed (and a Ruben to die for across the street) and an EA in Willows. Better luck next trip!
  8. R1S 7500K Mile Scheduled Service includes what?

I scheduled my 7,500 mile service and they told me $160 including tire rotation. Then I got this notification to "approve and sign" an estimate with ABSOLUTELY NO DETAIL for $374.10. I called and they something about wiper blades and a cabin filter. Ford and Audi pulled this kind of crap - I...
  9. Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

Yellowstone had 4,501,382 recreation visits, a 37% increase from 2022, and was the fifth most visited national park in the country. And that is NOT a RAN adventure location ?!!! Elon and/or RJ need to fill that massive DC charging hole.
  10. I’ll move when I’m done. Sorrento at RAN Bishop

He was parked in front of the Mexican Chicken place. Go about 150 feet North and you could find a police officer to cite him. I am a frequent visitor to Bishop and the local law enforcement would be happy to accomodate. It could be worse. If it was in front of Schat's, you would NEVER get...
  11. Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

Rivian could buy the mostly unused V2 Tesla site in West Yellowstone. It is not suited for Tesla demographics and the wires are already in the ground. (Save one in case a Tesla shows up.)
  12. Rivian Announces The Yosemite Charging Outpost

Small town at 3,000 feet elevation. They probably had limited kW supply from PG&E. That make-shift power company might be using old telegraph wires for transmission.
  13. Another R1T Stump Pull. So much carnage!

Good advice. Back in my Jeep and Land Rover days it was a standard accessory.
  14. Rivian Trade In Estimator Launched

Vehicle values degrade at levels similar to an Electrify America charging curve in Nevada. Buy what you want and drive it. It's not an investment.
  15. Dealer Rivian not selling-Should I trust this car?

It does look like residual adhesive. Ask if you could try this stuff... Soak it for five minutes. I've used it on stubborn adhesive and road bugs with "crazy glue" DNA. The least invasive solution before you get into "Bar Keepers Friend" or low dose isopropyl.
  16. Roadtrip videos are like excuses, everyone has one...this is ours: 4.5K Miles/2.6MWh/$900

That is one feature I have noticed on road trips that is almost scary for accuracy. No matter what I think, high or low, the Rivian estimate is within a few miles. The algorithms must be factoring elevation and previous history.
  17. Tucson, AZ to Playa Palomas, Sonora, Mexico

I was at the coast near Rosarito around thirty years ago with a BMW 3.0 CS. Sitting on the sand watching the waves and “Eric Estrada” (who had studied English at Oxford) informed me I was in violation “open container”. Miles from anywhere. $20. Since they are now in competition with the...
  18. RJ Explains: Why Rivian Builds Its Technology In-House

You would have TOO MUCH autonomy = "We know what's good for you." = We can't charge for it.
  19. Other EVs ruin my trips

I have taken multiple road trips in over a half dozen states with my Kia EV6 GT-L that has an 800 volt charging structure - mainly with EA DC chargers. I’ve learned that there is little difference in my time with the 150 or 350kW chargers. The 150’s stay in the one hundreds long enough. The...
  20. Kia EV9. What many R1S buyers would be very happy with...

My problem with the Kia EV9 was that it didn’t provide off-road capability. Other than that, it checked more boxes than my R1S. For those who say “just a Kia”, it’s in the top three for J.D. Power satisfaction. I bought #509 of the First Edition EV6 GT-L over two years ago. So far, after...
