  1. Confirmed: Newer production R1 only have a single 12v battery, but...

Is this change reflected in their user manual? It's shocking how a company can make a user accessible hardware change and not properly document it to the user. They probably protect themselves by saying 12V batteries (now capacitors also) should only be serviced by Rivian.
  2. Rivian News: R2, Production, Preorders, 2024, Amazon, NACS, Self Driving (from Global Auto Industry Conference 2023)

They need to add a Teenager mode. Limit the power to achieve 0-60 in about 8 seconds. Fast enough without making it too easy to get into trouble. Looks like a good number of changes to 2024 models. This would have been called a model refresh back in the day. Better manufacturing and...
  3. Rivian’s R1T Same Day Sales Event

Smart move for end of quarter delivery push. Only 3 weeks remain in Q2. Any car produced now won't have enough time to ship to a SC, PDI and customer deliver before end of Q2. Selling from the factory can cut off 2-4 weeks of shipping. Normal plant probably has plenty of extra people they...
  4. GM adopts Tesla's NACS standard! Munro begs Rivian to switch

What if King Elon decided in 1.5 years from now that he doesn't want all these "other" cars are ruining the superchargers. He'll make up some BS rule to make it unattractive to use a supercharger. Either super high pricing for non-Tesla cars, or some other limitation that doesn't break...
  5. GM adopts Tesla's NACS standard! Munro begs Rivian to switch

Is this actually a good thing for Tesla? Wasn't one of their main advantages the supercharger network. Eventually anyone can use it, so there is much less motivation to need to buy a Tesla to use it. Tesla drivers won't be happy with all these outsiders invading their exclusive chargers...
  6. ? NOW OPEN! Rivian NYC Manhattan Hub. Also coming to Vancouver, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Pasadena, Nashville, Austin, Boston, SF

Not sure why Rivian keeps opening these urban hubs. I guess this location could get some eyeballs on the brand, but not really. Better to open a tiny storefront on time square. This may be my west coast perception of Manhattan. These urban hubs are also a terrible place to do first drives...
  7. Vehicle Observation on the Roads - Not Great for Rivian

Maybe I have seen a Lightning, or maybe it's was just another F150. For me, it is really hard to tell in passing unless you go right up to it and see the badges. Even the EQS SUV looks similar in shape and styling to the AMG GLE coupe which are plentiful around here. When you see a...
  8. Anyone know when Rivian switched to the new "front" subframe?*edit*

Do you mean the front subframe is now cast? One of the Munro videos that did a teardown of the R1T showed the rear subframe was always cast but the front was a bunch of welded pieces. Their comment was that it looked like Rivian ran out of time with the front subframe and had to launch with...
  9. New Rivian customer satisfaction campaign -- halfshaft issue (on 2022 R1S and R1T)

I thought "ting washer" was a typo. After some searching, it looks like that is the correct terminology. Glad to see ting washer is a real thing, because a tin washer would not be a durable fix. Found a Ford TSB referring to similar drive shaft clunking. Seems none of these driveline...
  10. Ben Sullins: Rivian R1T After 1 Year - Would I Buy it Again?

I wonder if all these former (or current) Tesla fanboys would have the same complaints if the Rivian stock was performing like Tesla's stock back in the day.
  11. Standard vs High Regen

I was told by a Rivian rep that high Regen doesn’t increase the maximum amount of Regen. It just makes the accelerator petal more sensitive during regen. I think this behavior agrees with what you observe. One way to test this is to do full off pedal regen stopping distance test using both...
  12. 3,000 Amazon R1Vs On the Road, 75 Million Packages Delivered

My Amazon driver had a new Rivian EDV the other day. I asked him how he like it. He said it has great acceleration but he missed the vroom of the engine. :headbang: Maybe Rivian needs give the drivers an option to add fake engine noise...like a Taycan.
