Well - for me, this post had a bombshell - space in the doors for a dog leash and tennis balls. I _think_ that is the first mention of anything dog related from Rivian - ever. Since about 40% of adults in USA own a dog - versus, I dunno, maybe 1% that own a vehicle tent - they need to nail this...
Dog owner coming from a GX470 - have carried medium dogs (Chow-chow, Samoyed) in the back. Our most recent dog will likely no longer be with us by fall when I expect to receive a R1T, and I'm not sure which direction we'll jump. Perfect for me would be a canopy/topper for the bed - so...we'll...
Canopy also known as a camper shell. I'm all about my dog(s) - most recently chow chow and samoyed. This is a vehicle to carry the dog(s) - I can't imagine going somewhere interesting in the truck and not taking them. I think I mentioned this 6 or 7 times in that Rivian survey last year. :)
That's how I use my GX - 3rd row removed and in bags in the garage...maybe gets installed once a year for a family trip. They fold out of the way but I like to give my dog more room and the windows. I've even removed the 2nd row a couple of times to do dump runs and move furniture. I'm honestly...
That seems reasonable - there were a couple of folks who ordered DURING the show that were in the 1200-1500 range. The question is...did they start at 1000? :)
FWIW I ordered 3 days after the Amazon investment announcement: February 18, 2019 and my number is 7431.
Am I the only one who would want a canopy? I pre-ordered the SUV but would consider a truck with a canopy. My main use case is carrying my dogs (currently two Chow-Chows, previous was a Samoyed, will probably always have a medium to full-size dog).
Sure, I'd like "free" but it wouldn't really be free, just bundled. Frankly, I think I would prefer it unbundled with the vehicle at a slightly/somewhat lower cost and let me optimize my charging / usage situation.
This saving the sales tax on a trade-in is indeed significant in high-sales-tax states. In WA, that's 10%. But is that enough to overcome the trade-in penalty over selling it yourself?
That's a truly intriguing idea - and Apple is famously secretive so that would fit. I actually looked at the Rivian job postings a month or so ago to see what they were recruiting for and I don't recall seeing a bunch of AI there, so a partner seems like a good bet.
I'm evaluating making the trek from the West coast to NYC for the Friday special preview. Also thinking of taking my 7yo grandson as well - tickets for the NYC auto show are certainly inexpensive. Is anyone else here going? If there are 10k people in that Friday preview then I think I'll pass...
@Wjen - some good points there. The suspension travel - the video showed they were very proud of it, but it was marginally more than a Land Rover - they can do better. But there's no way you're going to swap in some OME shocks so hopefully the've thought this through. And you're right - if you...
That's helpful - quite a few details in there I hadn't seen before and folks had asked about. We saw the full size spare below the truck bed, the roof rack bars that could be moved to the bed as well, the dual position tailgate, and a rationale for the "stadium" lighting on the grill. And the...
My Feb 18 pre-order confirmation email said "If at any time you decide you'd like to switch models, no need to cancel your order and lose your place in line — when it’s time to configure your vehicle, you’ll be able to switch between the R1T and R1S. "
