Both R1T and R1S have been sighted on the road for the last year. It's not as if they were waiting until R1T sales started to finalize the R1S, they just decided to focus on a single model for the first phase of larger-scale production, which is understandable. They want to tighten up their...
Funny. Sort of explains the pricing structure for the kitchen. The Dyson car project was scrapped because they projected the break-even cost of the vehicle as-designed to be over $180,000. The Rivian looks like a good value by comparison.
Rachel Jewkes is the lead engineer on the kitchen/gear tunnel project. She previously worked on the iPace at Jaguar and also worked on the now-abandoned Dyson electric car.
Great news. I just reached out to Rivian and apparently the camp kitchen team will turn to app development in a few weeks, right after they complete the color selections for the camp kitchen recipe book. Exciting!
If they decided against it then it wasn't due to a lack of resources. It's a well-capitalized startup and I'm confident that they have as many engineers/designers as they need to handle every aspect of vehicle design and manufacture. There are an enormous number of moving parts at play here.
Once again, you've figured it out. There simply wasn't enough money to hire any more engineers so they were waiting for the camp kitchen team to finish before they could focus on the vehicle production.
Dude, not every product is meant for every customer. I've given the camp kitchen zero thought. Just not for me. It's something that appeals to some and it's generated a little buzz. Where's the harm?
My wife impulsively purchased a Genesis when they first made an appearance here. It was an incredibly fun car to drive. She then impulsively traded it in for a Cadillac SUV because she wanted a higher seating position. That ended up being a horrible vehicle.
In all likelihood they'll have some type of sliding door configuration. We had a Tesla showroom years ago in a mall in the near north suburbs of Chicago that was in a retail space with a couple of cars and not much else. Very similar situation.
The future is not yet here. This is state of the art for solar. Great idea but nowhere near enough capacity for effective charging:

Their "game plan" was the same as for every other start-up, gauge demand then plan. If 90% of their "pre-orders" (realistically just a small, refundable deposit) were from West Virginia then that's where they'd be focusing at first. If you were the tenth person to send in your $1,000 and the...
Valet. I once got my car back from valet and headed for the highway. After I started up the entrance ramp I saw that the valet had rested my keyfob on the driver's side windshield wiper. On the OUTSIDE. I let out a Homer Simpson yelp and - carefully - pulled over to the shoulder to retrieve my key.
Does no one remember "Better Place," the battery swap startup? It was pitched as a solution for places like Hawaii, where you were geographically isolated. The battery swap stations ended up requiring an investment of millions per location (as opposed to the early projection of about $500,000)...
There are projects on that street that have taken years to complete (I'm talkin' to you, Nobu hotel). Rivian is just a tenant, so they have little control over scheduling for the overall project.
City folks might not be their primary customers but that area draws upscale visitors from...
