I finally had a chance to drive over to the Chelsea service center, hoping to finally see a truck for the first time, but no dice. Several were working on the building though and it is definitely coming along, plenty of nice lifts inside!
Did you get any more pictures of that flashing device, or where it plugged into the truck, or happen to notice? I'll be searching for a "way in" as soon as I can get one.
Do we still only have one delivery in MA? When do I have any hope of seeing a Rivian with my own eyes here? I wish they parked one outside for us to ogle in Chelsea.
This is huge news. And win-win for everyone.
The car rental companies have been desperate for cars. It's next to impossible to find a car to rent, and the prices are astronomical because of lack of supply. They are losing a ton of business because the manufacturers can't make them cars.
Except...
Yeah, I have to say after hearing Kyle's review...especially the last 10 seconds... I think the GT may have moved up to #2 on my list behind the R1T. Both pushing MYP.
You can tap into the CAN and get everything you can imagine. Then view it on a phone app, or one of my little displays there, or log and analyze later.
My battery display now shows me temp, cell balance, max regen and max discharge, again all values describing performance.
This is why I'm...
Perusing their web site, it looks like these are the driveline disconnects:
https://www.meansindustries.com/technology/applications
And that coincides with Rivian being able to disengage the rear motors and just use the front for extra range. I would have though this was done with induction...
Here are the two displays I find I want to see at all times: Instantaneous battery wattage, and pack temperature.
WIth the choice of thousands, they are the two I like to watch while driving, and have front in center in front of me on my dash:
Power of course is great to see when you hit...
There are two levels of data logging:
First is API based, simply grabbing data published remotely, with about 100 pieces of data. This isn't hacking, but you granting access to a published API. Teslafi is spectacular at this and lets you incredibly in depth long term data. I can only hope...
Thanks for the very detailed photos and observations!
The wood stain on the forest green interior just looks SO good. I wish it wasn't so expensive for a non-functional item.
It's cold soaked every morning... the pack is a massive thermal mass and cold windy winter nights will easily bring it well below freezing, and even if you jump in for a drive hours later it will still be extremely cold if you don't precondition.
I should have mentioned, those of you lucky...
Going on a long drive in subzero temperatures can certainly be surprising if you don't prepare for it.
-Air density is much higher and causes more drag, especially as you drive faster. Ask any pilot.
-Batteries can not be charged at ALL below freezing, and regen is reduced linearly below room...
Of all the Rivian content I've seen today, this is the best part. THanks for posting technical details!
Do we know if they have a heat pump or resistive cabin heater? That also makes a big difference in cold weather.
