  1. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

Rivian is not Tesla. The most Tesla ever lost in one year was $2.24 billion in 2017, with cumulative losses of around $10 billion over 10 years before profitability. Rivian lost more than $5 billion last year, and almost $7 billion in 2022. RIVN is a cash furnace, burning $12 billion in 2022 and...
  2. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

LOL not trolling. I've said time and again that I get why people don't like Teslas, but from a value perspective they are unbeatable right now, and it is undeniable that their pricing strategy is destroying the residual value of a large part of the EV market, which is jeopardizing the viability...
  3. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

Uh, well run? Rivian lost over $5 billion last year. I wish I had a job where I lost $5 billion of investors money in a single year with no path to profitability realistically in sight, and thereafter people told me I was doing a great job!
  4. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

I love Kias, but if money mattered I'd take a $33.5k base MY over a $44k Kia AWD EV6 all day. Not even close.
  5. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

I leased/owned the KIAs when they started producing amazing cars, but the market had not realized it yet. They were an insane bargain then. I ended up paying almost nothing for those cars after lease buyouts and flipping them, and with cost of capital included they were literally net-zero cost...
  6. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

The base EV6 is cloth interior, 167hp, 58.0 kWh battery at $44k (dealer haggling available). The base MY is not cloth, 295hp, 60 kWh battery at $41k. So the delta is no longer the $20k it used to be (things move fast).
  7. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

LOL this is what I did. When EM freaked out last fall and slashed pricing I scooped up a Model X Plaid for $88k, in lieu of being a two R1S family (even though we had the locked in pre-hike R1S pricing). The refresh X is second+ generation car, where the R1S is clearly 1st gen in many ways.
  8. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

I think a person with a budget would be crazy to pay $20k more for an EV6 over a Model Y. But, there are a lot of crazy people out there.
  9. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

This is true, but their pricing is now demolishing competitors. I drove the EV9 the other day. I have owned 4 KIAs in the past and they were on par with the best cars I eve owned. Literally not one single defect in 4 KIA vehicles. I like the R1S, but my kids think the EV9 blows away the R1S.
  10. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

It's a few issues. First, it is likely the refresh will have an updated MCU/CPU/GPU, and pre-refresh will become orphans for software udpates sooner than later. Second, Quad Bosch will be discontinued, so those will be orphans for service and parts in the future as Rivian moves on to the new in...
  11. 200 stall Supercharger location announced in Yeehaw Junction, Florida

This is big. If they make a nice clubhouse or starbucks-like cafe or restaurant they will make a fortune.
  12. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

LOL. What new car, gas, hybrid, or electric, can be had for anything near this price? The Model Y is a nice car by any standard. Yes, it is Tesla-y, and some people don't like Tesla-ness, but it is still nice.
  13. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

This -> This is my only concern. Seeing all the nightmare issues people have had with their R1Xs, and my 2023 has been basically perfect, I hope I get lucky twice!
  14. Rivian offering preorder price difference vouchers for remaining price protected pre-order holders

This is what Rivian should be doing. With the G Wagon MB figured out that a large percentage of their customers happy to pay $100k for a G Wagon would also pay $175k+ for a G Wagon. They increased the price of the car by $75k and lost zero net customers. They need to make the base R1S/R1T with...
  15. Tesla Model Y price slashing again, and the future of RIVN

Seriously an amazing deal. I would love to be a lender in this space. I would lend on or be the lessee on a $30,440 Model Y 29 hours a day 8 days a week.
  16. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

The pre-hike pricing resulted in a $16,500 discount on the 2023 and $18,400 discount on the 2024. So I am not complaining. The metrics on the 2024 lease program were close, but did not work out for me - as I mentioned earlier, I plan on keeping the R1S for more than 3 years.
  17. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

Just a hunch, but I think the refresh will be significant, and I think they will be able to plausibly say "look, we honored the original pricing for years, you can still apply it to a pre-refresh on existing inventory, but that's it." I also think that this kind of move would be reasonable...
  18. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

No tax credit for me. I'll share details once the deal closes this week.
  19. Trading 2023 R1S in for a 2024 R1S

I don't think there are any changes, other than potential manufacturing changes with the 2024 being 10,000 or so units down the production line. The loss is greater than the wear and tear on tires (per mileage). It's a worse-than-marginal deal, for sure. Roughly the equivalent of lease...
