  1. What part is Rivian missing that's causing supply / production issues?

Before Tesla, there hadn't been a new OEM Automaker in 100 years for a reason: it's really hard. RJ has done about as well as you could have given how challenging it is to start a new car auto company and to actually come to market with a compelling product that people want to buy. There are...
  2. Q3 2024 Production / Delivery Numbers… Not good

I am in agreement with you that this spells weak demand that Rivian is trying dress up as supply shortage. Tesla also had a bad quarter, which is also not a good sign. Ford saw growth with the F-150 lightening. Toyota saw significant growth in the electrified vehicle segment, but it was...
  3. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

I would personally love to see Rivian and HMG partner. Agreed that VW is much more desperate for the software end. HMG IMO is one of the strongest non-Tesla competitors out there.
  4. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

I don't disagree - but I don't see either of them (TESLA, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, ) as needing a partnership with RIVIAN. The others do and they have $$ to burn.
  5. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

That pure BEV has experienced a plunge in sales - you forgot to mention that. And that pure bev has a ubiquitous and reliable charging network which no other OEM other than Tesla can claim. You can't expect to understand EV trends if you don't understand the basic issues preventing adoption...
  6. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

I agree that Toyota, Honda and Nissan are good targets but I disagree that VW isn't a target. They already have an agreement in place. Remember VW does significant sales across the globe, and especially in the European market, including Germany. Rivian doesn't need to only be investing in a...
  7. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

This is a direct quote from your own link: "The transportation sector is the largest source of direct greenhouse gas emissions and second largest source when indirect emissions from electricity end-use are allocated across sectors."
  8. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

From a desperate need to reduce planet killing carbon emissions, everyone should have been driving an EV decades ago. But in reality, you are 100% correct that you simply can't expect human behavior to change overnight and you can't mandate adoption of something - it creates the opposite...
  9. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

I am in 100% agreement with you that Rivian should be working on an EREV. They are far superior than PHEV vehicles and the Chinese have been building them into their EVs now for several years. They are able to get nearly 900 miles of range in family SUVs because they are pairing an electrified...
  10. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Ford pulled their SUV EV and is instead releasing it as a hybrid. The are also pulling back on their EV plans and delaying the full transition. Ford reacts to the market. They aren't operating in a vacuum. The proof is in the pudding. We will have clarity in terms of Rivian demand at the...
  11. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Their decisions are based on demand. It's really that simple. If you think that the average consumer is running out to buy an EV over an ICE/Hybrid/PHEV, then there have been a lot of misreported sales numbers that need to be corrected. There is intense EV skepticism in the general public...
  12. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Your aren't understanding my point. You can't compare EV adoption in Chinese or European markets and draw comparisons to US markets. They reflect completely different market forces including government subsidies and consumer sentiment involved. That is point #1. Point #2 is flooding the US...
  13. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Wrong market. Those Chinese automakers are selling record numbers of EVs because they are heavily subsidized by the chinese government. China controls most of the battery supply chain and can source materials at a fraction of the cost that US based OEMs can source them. Comparing sales in...
  14. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Sorry, I knew I was forgetting something. Yes, Ram charger is likely to hit the street before anything from Hyundai/Genesis. I think this model has incredible potential and we shouldn't dismiss it.
  15. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Everyone can find numbers to support their specific point. The fact that every OEM not named Tesla or Rivian has shifted their roadmap to boost production of hybrid/PHEV and delay EV speaks volumes for where market demand is. They have been bleeding money collectively on EV sales and have...
  16. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

I agree with you. Here's where I think the market needs to go and maybe this is how VW and Rivian can form a meaningful strategic partnership that benefits both. Let's move on from hybrids and PHEV's and embrace EREV (electric, range extended vehicles) pioneered by BMW with their BMW i3 Rex...
  17. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

OEMs not named Tesla and Rivian have shifted their roadmaps to delay their fully EV lineups because the market has responded by driving sales of hybrids/PHEVs and they are bleeding billions on their EV divisions. I sincerely doubt every OEM that currently is in a position to sell hybrids and...
  18. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Actually, you are wrong. They are pivoting to hybrids and PHEVs because that is what the consumer wants. They killed their planned electric SUV to introduce a hybrid instead.
  19. Ford Ditches Electric SUV: Is it Time to Address the Elephant in the Room?

Yes, pretty much. Except hopefully Hyundai/Genesis and whoever else adopts this model doesn't do it half-assed like BMW did. The i3 was an engineering marvel, but the REx part was an afterthought that they didn't really design from the ground up like the rest of the car.
