But the percentages are still extremely small relative to what those same OEMS are selling in hybrids, PHEV's and ICE.
OEMS are not making money on the EV's they are selling (except Tesla). They are making money on everything else, which is why every OEM not producing purely EVs is pulling...
Rivian is losing over $30K for every R1 they sell. I want to believe they can bring a mass market R2 or R3 (I'm putting down a reservation on the R3 the moment it opens) but I'm worried that they don't have the capital to make that happen.
My vote is for a poll for when Ralph will actually say something useful
We are on the same page. In fact, plug-in hybrids are the worst of both worlds. They typically get less MPG than the hybrid only equivalent if they aren't plugged in because you are carrying extra weight and many don't...
What is your point, exactly? Of course VW is getting something. That isn't at issue. If VW doesn't step in, Rivian has to go borrow from capital markets (and may still have to) at rates that aren't going to help them become profitable.
I don't disagree with you. But they offer a path to electrification for consumers that are deeply skeptical of EV's and don't want a lifestyle change.
The numbers in terms of hybrid and PHEV sales are irrefutable and that is what is driving OEMs to back off of plans to introduce EV only...
Except people are buying hybrids and PHEV's - even at 6%.
I don't agree with the concept behind hybrids and PHEV's but it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what the market thinks.
Rivian is burning through all of it's cash. They effectively were bailed out by VW.
Apparently you don't read well if this is the dumbest thing you've read because I never said Rivian should sell a hybrid or PHEV. I said they should leverage their partnership with VW to provide their IP for battery/electric motor for something co-developed with VW and sold by VW.
Rivian...
Is it time to start worrying about Rivian from an EV demand perspective? Hybrids and plug-in hybrid sales have surged while EV sales have largely plateaued.
The significant disadvantage that Rivian has next to nearly all OEMs is that it cannot rely on sales of hybrids, PHEVs, or ICE vehicles to...
EV's depreciate at a higher rate than other vehicles in part because the EV rebates are reflected and battery technology is changing rapidly and the technology of today will likely not be the technology in a few years vs ICE vehicles which haven't had significant shifts in core vehicle...
I find it amusing that you are bragging about the prowess of your Rivian while showing off your "unaware" street race using video footage that looks like it was shot with one of these:
More power to you brother. Stay safe out there.
Yikes!
Are we sure this wasn't the aftermath of the empty Boeing Space Capsule "safely" returning to earth?
Meanwhile, someone's got some splaining to do...
Right on the money with the i3 seats. My favorite seats by far. They are manual, thin AF and no adjustable lumbar support yet I find them super comfortable.
I remember when Sandy first interviewed EM several years back and he looked him dead in the eye and told him how amazing the design...
I couldn't agree with you more on all points. i3s REX owner here. My i3 is by far my favorite daily driver. There is nothing that I have ever driven that comes close to the experience of driving this little car. The turning radius is second to none. The interior is simply beautiful and airy...
Hello fellow i3 owner!
David Tracy runs a blog where he talks a lot about how much he loves his i3 (he recently found and bought a 2021 Galvanic Gold i3s).
Do you have an i3 or and i3s? Recently people with i3s vehicles have been fitting 195 55R20s in place of the 195 50R20s in the rear and...
I was thinking about a setup just like this. Dammit man, that breakfast looks delicious and I can almost smell that crispy to perfection bacon.
I want to go to there...
$1,400 is steep but Rivian has to find profit somewhere, and I really hope Rivian is ACTUALLY making a profit on these considering they still haven't figured out how to do that with the R1 vehicles.
Well said. Also, potatoes all over the world take issue with you besmirching their name by comparing them in the same breath as the R1 video cameras. They are just as delicious today as they were in 1993 when the video resolution in R1 vehicles was first introduced...
Pay this cat!
A free ride is great from an owner perspective but as a stockholder (one who has spent WAY too much $$ buying a never ending dip) Rivian needs to start making some damn money!
They are STILL losing $30K per vehicle sold! Just don't try and put seat heaters on subscription (I'm...
