Typical PR spin - only focus on the part of the discussion that suit your narrative...
Ignore the needs of the spouse and the rest of my original post entirely.
You need to read a little more closely. I stated that MT is my PREFERENCE, not a requirement. I also have a SO to be considerate of, so there's that aspect as well.
I understand what you're saying, but I'm used to hopping between very different vehicles in the stable, and seamlessly making the according adjustments. Supercharged V6 w/manual, Turbo Diesel, or PHEV Wrangler. Each of the vehicles have their own set of memories they helped create, and the R1T...
I know fully well what to expect from electric - both good and bad. This is why my Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel isn't going anywhere due to it's 600+ mile range and overall capability. ;)
Uh yeah - I know what ISO 26262 is. I sit right next to the engineer responsible for implementing the process (which is designed by people). You can't remove them from the process. The process assumes that everyone's acting in good faith to a certain degree. I've worked with a...
You can't remove humans from the loop since both hardware and software are developed by them. There's also serious issues involved with the integration of non-deterministic software (AI or machine learning) in a safety-critical system context. The typical band aid is a supervisory piece of...
Both my wife and I have seen protos in the area right by their office. R1S & R1T sightings. Show up at the office and request to see Launch Green samples.
Sounds like me.
I've got this, I'm an engineer....
The other perspective, is that if a feature is too difficult to find and use, then it's been done incorrectly.
Granite Gray Grand Cherokee here, but with a Red S4 garage mate.
I've experienced the -40C temps of central Alberta Manitoba for about a week during a vehicle development trip. Thompson to be specific. Lakes frozen so thick they're used as roads and plowed for several months of the year.
The use of dedicated 12V batteries cause their own set of problems when combined w/PHEV or BEV vehicles. At a certain point, having a single battery and power supply module to deliver the necessary voltages makes the most sense. There's been plenty of discussion about ICE vehicles switching...
You'd be shocked (pun intentional) to know that most of the non-powertrain electronics on EV's produced by the legacy auto manufacturers remain on 12V. Why? The economics of volume/commodity pricing. I'd be very surprised if Rivian didn't have a significant amount of 12V electronics as well.
I'm not debating that at all, but a mobile app to support phone as key or remote charge control/monitoring is fundamentally different than the IVI supporting CarPlay or Android Auto.
Steering this thread back on course, the topic actually has multiple layers to it.
What is Rivian's strategy for mobile device integration?
What platforms will be supported?
How will they be integrated?
From what I understand, Rivian doesn't plan to support either of the platform-specific...
The CMF table is very typical in the automotive design space. The intent is not only to show the colors and textures themselves, but also to show the inspiration behind those decisions. Lets not forget that that this is also the Rivian team's first go at this, and we shouldn't necessarily view...
