  1. So disappointed in Rivian to leave me stranded with a dead battery

I think the biggest problem is.....the OP is very unclear about what actually happened. When the thread started, many posters were trying to get clarification on exactly what was going on. The OP has never bothered to check back in and explain/clarify the situation. Pretty soon the the...
  2. Rivian R1S Driving w/Comma AI at Dusk - Lane Selection, Stop/Go Traffic and Maintaining Lanes

Keep these videos coming. One question.....from what I've read, these systems sometimes have trouble with a vehicle is completely stopped in front of them (rather than one that slowed down to a stop). Would you be able to "stage" a situation with a second car such that you're driving along and...
  3. So disappointed in Rivian to leave me stranded with a dead battery

Here's a link that shows how to replace both 12v in a Gen 1. Remember, this is how to swap out BOTH 12v...so it takes a few minutes longer than just one. Nothing mystical involved...just a bit of a pain to remove the frunk liner.
  4. So disappointed in Rivian to leave me stranded with a dead battery

That's what's confusing me......it doesn't. I had a mobile service call (where Rivian was replacing a bad batch of 12v batteries under warranty). They showed up and it took about 20-25 minutes to replace BOTH my 12v batteries (Gen 1). The potential problem occurs if the 12v dies and you've...
  5. Tesla Drivers Are The Worst

Yes...agree that the data used may be somewhat dated since they list both Mercury and Pontiac drivers. However, I found it interesting that they listed Pontiac drivers as one of the safest...BUT....they also had one of the HIGHEST rates of DUIs!!! I guess if you drive an old Pontiac Aztec...
  6. So disappointed in Rivian to leave me stranded with a dead battery

Not sure I understand. The 12v is used to "wake up" the main battery...but you said BOTH the 12v and the main battery are dead. If the 12v is replaced, you should be able to start and use the vehicle. So, if I understand you....even though the 12v was replaced (by roadside service?) the...
  7. Knocking during hard acceleration

Those premium electrons are even better than premium gas.:like:
  8. Knocking during hard acceleration

Try using PREMIUM gasoline instead of REGULAR.....works every time to get rid of engine knock under hard acceleration.
  9. Tesla Drivers Are The Worst

According to a new study Tesla drivers are the worst. https://insideevs.com/news/750265/tesla-drivers-are-worst-ev-safety-study/
  10. Determining money factor/interest rate on lease quote

Auto Lease Calculator Monthly Lease Payment: $1,514.19 I played around with the following site and when I used a factor of .00340 I got your payment to within $2. That yields an APR of about 8.16% (see below). Here's the link to the calculator site so you can plug things in yourself to...
  11. Cold weather checklist: Advantage to keeping vehicle plugged in?

This is from @cmerritt408. It does a good job explaining what's causing the vampire drain on the main battery and how it can be stopped/reduced. Video takes a few minutes but there is a "TLDR summary" for those who don't want to view. Basically, keeping the vehicle plugged in will keep the...
  12. Other Manufacturers Kicking the Tires on Rivian Software / Interested in Partnership

Are you sure about this? According to this Reuters article, the investment was for "intellectual property licenses" and an equity investment. https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/rivian-volkswagen-group-launch-58-billion-joint-venture-2024-11-12/
  13. Other Manufacturers Kicking the Tires on Rivian Software / Interested in Partnership

My understanding of the JV is that VW is LICENSING Rivian's software stack and NOT buying it. What advantage does this give to Rivan? The same advantage that Microsoft had with IBM back in the day of the PC....IBM machines couldn't work without Microsoft's software. If VW uses Rivian's...
  14. Cold weather checklist: Advantage to keeping vehicle plugged in?

Okay....now I'm the one that's confused. I don't have my J1772 plugged in. BUT...I'm using a battery tender plugged into my OBD port (the other end into "shore power"). This maintains the 12v batteries and reduces the vampire drain by quite a bit. The truck would end up sitting there for a...
  15. Other Manufacturers Kicking the Tires on Rivian Software / Interested in Partnership

Here's a clip from CNBC that came out about 3-4 months ago (right after the JV with Volkswagen was announced). At the very end, it makes the point that Rivian's software has real value and it takes an obscene amount of capital to manufacture cars. He who controls the software can control the...
  16. Frame or shocks broken

I think the truck nutz were probably too heavy for the shocks and frame...?
  17. Seat cleaner recommendations?

I'll second the Gyeon products. I actually used their Leather Shield to "coat" my OC seats as soon as I got my truck home and everything still looks brand new.
  18. My Rivian saved mine and my kids lives

@skram were you able to retrieve the gear guard video of the crash??? I think the system saves the last 30-60 seconds of video when it detects an impact or heavy breaking.
  19. Proactive replacement of 12v battery

When Rivian contacted me, they said it was ok to drive it but they wanted to replace my batteries. pre-emptively. He said they noted some fluctuations in my charge readings.....don't know what they're monitoring because I'm not aware of anything I can access on any of my truck's screens that...
