OK. I would not buy either one of those.
a) Both are foreign. Volvo is a Chinese company. BMW is German, and has a reputation of being expensive to maintain - both do, actually. Rivian is a US company.
b) Never liked Volvo's styling. Not a fan of BMW's look either.
I need power near the mirror for both a radar detector (V1) and a Dashcam. In my current 4Runner I used a mirror tap for the V1 and then used the Garmin "Constant Power Cable" OBD-II connector for the dashcam. Works great. The Garmin cable provides two USB ports, so I imagine you could only use...
Finally got around to watching this whole event. Lots there, and LIDAR makes absolutely sense. But I was most blown away by the Rivian Assistant demo, starting at around the 48:25 mark. Wow. When they do the demo, listen for a few gasps (and a "no way!") from the attendees.
I think Rivian is on...
Most numbers I am seeing show rising EV sales. The rate of growth has slowed, as many expected, because of the EV incentives (US) being discontinued. But as far as I can tell, EV sales are still rising.
Agreed, for reasons i don’t think we should get into.
but to me, Rivian is a good, innovative US company that i feel good about supporting. I’m no isolationist - I currently drive a 4Runner.
There is one more consideration that I don't see anyone bringing up - buying American.
I'd like very much to support a new, innovative American business like Rivian.
Lots of off-road capable vehicles are on the road because people like the way that looks - not because they actually want to take them off-road. It may depend on the area. In places like Dallas you see a great number of off-road vehicles that have never seen dirt. In places like Denver people...
Do you really think so? I don't see it - not for me anyway. I have a deposit on an R2.
I see nothing appealing about the iX3.
All I see in common is that they are both EVs.
Here's my guess;
I very much doubt the iX3 will be priced lower than $60,000.
If they say the entry point is lower, you...
Don't really see this as a competitor to the R2 - at all. Wholly different market.
BMWs are expensive to buy and maintain. I doubt that will be any different with this one.
I AM glad to see them onboard with EVs, though.
I'm not a fan of the ones shown. They are part of a current trend style; one I think of as "disconnected chunks'. I much prefer more radial design. They will have other wheels to offer, and aftermarket wheels will be plentiful. Wheels are easily replaced. I bought a 5th gen 4Runner an didn't...
Good plan.
Is it? I mean, does it function like a full time dash cam? I am unfamiliar with Rivian's built in system, so I have questions. I like knowing I have full time coverage, front and rear, available to download for any event. If the built in system does this reliably, great...
I know, its early. But without a configurator or more detailed info on when our R2 will be coming, I thought I would engage in a little bit of speculation...
Radar Detector install?
Must have for me. I am assuming there will be a mirror tap and mirror stem mount available aftermarket...

Current 4Runner owner here. While I did not get quite *that* excited, the roll down rear window is one of the best and most useful features for me. That sold me one the R2. I'm amazed at how often I use it in my 4Runner.
