  1. Tripped Charging Circuit Breaker During Update

DC fast charging is specifically forbidden during an update, but being connected to a L2 charger is supposed to be ok. I've done this before at least a time or two. The truck controls the charging, so if it's resetting, the charger is idle. Nevertheless, I will be disconnecting the truck before...
  2. Tripped Charging Circuit Breaker During Update

No. It tripped again about an hour later. The next day, same thing, I reset it and it tripped after about an hour of charging. Today I installed a new breaker and have been charging for 3 hours so far without interruption.
  3. Tripped Charging Circuit Breaker During Update

My R1T updated to 2023.38 last night. The truck was charging at 48A from my Rivian wall charger at the time, and while the update was in progress (or immediately after), it stopped charging due to an error and it suggested unplugging and plugging back in. I initially did that, but then the truck...
  4. Slow down before shifting

I've gotten dyslexic while wanting the windshield washer fluid and pressed the park button a couple times while cruising down the highway. Terrible grinding sound, indeed!
  5. CybErtRuCk so bad they had a custom tarp ready for when if broke down (via electrek)

Validation testing continues through the life of any modern vehicle. Especially in this age, software improvements in particular are tested and released months and years after a vehicle enters production. One direct experience I have with this is when I dated a GM engineer, she was still...
  6. CybErtRuCk so bad they had a custom tarp ready for when if broke down (via electrek)

It's standard practice for test cars of any OEM to carry a fitted car cover for breakdowns and other parking. This isn't a Cybertruck thing, just a normal test car thing. I work in the auto industry myself. It's normal to see test cars covered even when they're parked in the company's own...
  7. First Time Towing

I towed a car trailer about 1800 miles round trip with my R1T. I estimate the total trailer weight was 5000-5500 pounds, and I just used a regular $30 ball hitch without any issues. For just one trip, I wasn't excited to spend $300-400 on a weight distributing hitch. If you'll be towing that...
  8. My new Rivian charger for my RIT max charges at 12 amps even though it's connected to 60 amps

I haven't had this issue, but I've heard of others experiencing it. Here's one similar thread. I wouldn't accept the advice you got from that phone call and would continue troubleshooting. Try resetting both the charger and truck. Try changing the dip switches to a different setting according to...
  9. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

My truck did recognize the trailer and went into tow mode. I basically had trailer brakes and the left brake/signal light, and that was it. No running lights or right brake/signal light.
  10. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

Power plants really aren't all that efficient, which is Tahoe Man's point. Many fossil fuel plants are still less than 40% efficient, not too dissimilar from an ICE. That isn't the R1T's fault, but for people buying an EV with the "save the planet" mindset, it makes less sense than they might...
  11. 3,880 mile trip across and down the Rockies ⛰️ R1T performed flawlessly

Cool trip! I had a recent trip myself with a similar first leg, going from Canton MI to Kearney NE with my Corvette in tow. Charging along I-80 was pretty easy. I got caught in a small hail storm myself but haven't noticed any dents from it, fortunately. Were you happy with your window tinter...
  12. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

That's a poor comparison. The inability of an ICE truck to extract all of the energy from its fuel doesn't carry over to an electric truck. That's kind of the main advantage of an EV, there's much less wasted energy.
  13. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

It wouldn't have been much different. I charged a handful of times during the day and got the experience. I had to drop the trailer a few times and it's really not a big deal, the whole process only adds about 5 minutes to the stop and I was a n00b with the trailer. It's inconvenient, but this...
  14. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

Great points! A struggle I had with the rental trailer situation is that I needed the trailer to measure for the right amount of drop, but I also needed the hitch ahead of time to pick up the trailer. So I picked up a 2" drop hitch hoping it would be close, and it was close, but the trailer was...
  15. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

Totally agree that the actual efficiency is impressive! And with all of the R1T's power, I could still out-accelerate most traffic even with the 5000 lb trailer! The lower total amount of energy they carry still makes them a poor choice for most long-distance towing, though. If I was doing a...
  16. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

Most towing guides that I looked at recommend that the tongue weight should be 10-15% of the total trailer weight. For me to get about 11% tongue weight with this setup, I needed to move the car as far forward as possible. The tongue weight is really important because improper loading can cause...
  17. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

:CWL: While I was typing the OP, I had to keep reminding myself that this was the Rivian forum and no one wanted to hear about the Corvette! I ran an 11.72 at 124.9 mph, which is a pretty slow time for the high trap speed. I was really struggling to get a good launch and I'm near the limit of...
  18. I towed a car trailer over 1800 miles with my R1T

I live in the Detroit area and have been doing an event called Rocky Mountain Race Week for the past couple years which starts in Nebraska. In years past, I drove my C5 Corvette from home to the event, but this year with a newer C6 Corvette and different drag racing tire situation, I wanted to...

  20. SE Michigan Owners?

I have a software issue currently with an update that failed to install properly. The service rep on the phone told me that Plymouth is booked out until the end of July currently and they can't fix my issue remotely. My service appointment options were late July in Plymouth or next week in...
