  1. SoCal (South OC) to UT NPs

No. Did so at the Canyonlands NP for a bit. There are several off road options.
  2. Compact EV SUV space getting crowded - BMW iX3, Volvo XC60, Polestar 3, Model Y, R2

No. Adding a LiDAR is not 2nd gen. Rivian need to show profit and become sustainable concern and not introduce 2nd gen in a year. R1 2nd gen was cost avoidance move and if Rivian has to goto gen 2 in a year, they're in deep $hit
  3. Tesla self-driving is so much safer, you get an insurance discount for using it

"Model S completed the 3,081-mile trip entirely without human intervention." https://www.thedrive.com/news/a-tesla-actually-drove-itself-from-los-angeles-to-new-york-exclusive?utm_source=beehiiv&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=the-drive-newsletter&_bhlid=e176cc74b7a0d4dbb52649a02f0592e38a901ca5...
  4. Compact EV SUV space getting crowded - BMW iX3, Volvo XC60, Polestar 3, Model Y, R2

Agree. The problem Rivian has is that they revealed R2 so long ago that other automakers have had a target to exceed. Also, by the time R3/3X comes along, there will be other hot hatch EVs with better specs and performance.
  5. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Here are the specs, including for Cross Country version.
  6. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

I find this comparison bit odd. Yes IX3, EX60 and R2 are similar in size and are all EV-SUVs.; however they appeal to very different market segments. BMW = sporty performance vehicle ("the ultimate driving machine") Volvo = safety first vehicle Rivian = Adventure lifestyle vehicle If...
  7. SoCal (South OC) to UT NPs

The image for Bryce was taken at the far end of the Rim Trail look out point. I didn't post any images but we did hike down into the canyon about 1,000' and coming back up was tough. Not just the height/up hill trail, but more to do with thinner air at over 8,000' altitude. We live near...
  8. How long do you plan to keep your current Rivian?

Historically, I usually keep my vehicles until either 80k-ish miles, or 5~6 years. I usually stagger the replacement cycle so that we don't end up with multiple new cars in a very short period of time. I just got my weekend 2-seater sports car in late 2025, and my daily driver Model 3 is...
  9. What makes Rivian unique?

It's less and less unique if the comparison is EV SUV or EV Truck. Sure, some would argue that adjustable height/air suspension, on-road/off-road various driving modes, 3 row eSUV and so so. All of these things are only meaningful if that's what one is seeking. Generally, though, as a daily...
  10. SoCal (South OC) to UT NPs

Just enjoyed Utah's National Parks. Total miles driven 1,885 miles averaged 2.04 miles/kWh. Charing started at 100% from home. Used RAN only once in LV. All other DCFC chargers at Tesla SC with the membership the I'd signed up just for the road trip - much lower cost than RAN. Now cancelled...
  11. Conversation with my neighbor... Are Rivian's really for rich people?

^^^^ these two are sad and depressing. Need some sunshine in your life!
  12. Ceramic Coating changed my car washing life

Thanks for this. I did not know that the coated vehicle needs to be washed more frequently. A quick AI checks (Perplexity and Gemini) say wash every 1~2 weeks based on the use and the environmental conditions, if it's a daily driver. If occasional use and is garaged, it said every 2~3 months...
  13. EV torque + snow: friend or foe?

Gen 1 quad and use Snow mode. Couple of years ago, drove from Sedona to Grand Canyon South Rim in January. Unknowing how the weather would change, drove on the 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff through the mountain range and got lots of snow, including a whiteout during the drive. The Snow...
  14. Ceramic Coating changed my car washing life

This past September, I took the delivery on a new vehicle (not Rivian) and decided for the first time to have it professionally PPF'd (full front, side mirrors and lower panels all the way back). As we haggled the job price, we came to an agreement with the ceramic coat included. None of my...
  15. Do you Hand Wash or Auto Car Wash?

We have 4 vehicles and all are hand washed - just not on a same day :)
  16. Some people's kids...

Just for the context, I have bought 5 vehicles sight unseen, no test drives except on the day buying the vehicle using online service and Costco auto program. For all of those, I did online research - mostly professional publications and some users forum. I actually jointed this forum just...
  17. Have you seen this trailer yet? - AI Tht

If you happen to be a fan of Formula 1, and have been to one of the European races, you know the there is a huge presence of multi-expansion trailers that forms their team and the hospitality suites. This particular trailer takes the F1 trailer philosophy and implements into a consumer trailer...
  18. Conversation with my neighbor... Are Rivian's really for rich people?

This plot shows the net worth by age and by percentile. It's put together by the Federal Reserve. While it's 2023 data, it is still the most recent. They will probably update it at some point. Not only the age, location of where you live makes a difference as the income source for the same...
  19. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Agree. I was simply reacting to one of the post about no one needs 400 mile EV. My only point was the the energy supply can be used in different ways - not just range. Personally, I am not at all concerned about EV range. There are many options, including ICE if the range was the primary...
  20. Conversation with my neighbor... Are Rivian's really for rich people?

It's all relative isn't it? When you think about just how much Rivians cost, there are far fewer percentage of the population that is willing to spend ~$100K for a vehicle. than a $50K (current national average vehicle price). Regardless of if one can or cannot afford it, the optics are that...
