  1. R3X exterior design patent approval

For many here, that is actually a positive. We like the old Lancia/Group B Rally inspired look. Couple that with some newer styling and EV, makes for a great looking vehicle. But I understand there are folks who won't like it. Looks are very subjective.
  2. Halloween Mode NOT WORKING?

Judging by some of the posts here, it seems some Gen1 owners are having similar problems. I haven't received my update yet.
  3. Replacement tires - Michelin Defender LTX MS2 vs. Bridgestone Prestige ?

Just to throw in my two cents. The Pirellis are a better tire, but they are expensive. They are more performance oriented, tougher sidewall, etc. But that means they wear faster and might be a little rougher ride. I switched to the Michelin Defenders too and they are quieter, softer, and...
  4. Front tow hooks rusting

Hmm...which front tow hooks? Unless they're busted up, I can't see them rusting more than some basic surface corrosion. Plus there are black/yellow rubber covers you can get for a few bucks. Powder coating them isn't going to fix the problem if you use them to the point where they're rusting...
  5. 2025 Rivian Halloween Mode Update teaser

Exactly. I was in automotive cybersecurity for a few years and in general IT for 20+. And I presume it is the same in any industry. Do people think the folks working on level 4 autonomous driving are the same folks that are deciding what color stitching or what cute Gary images will be shown...
  6. Cost to remove item from under seat

Also an important point. Car companies/dealers are in the business of making money. Everything is labor hours. You can ask them to wipe a spot of bird poop off your window. They would also charge you, probably 1 hour of labor at $150/hr or something. Unfortunate fact of life, which means...
  7. Cost to remove item from under seat

Yep, remove the seat yourself. You probably don't even need to do a lot of work. Probably could remove the bolts and tip it back/forward and retrieve the object.
  8. Random Rivian Photos of the Day - Post Yours! 📸

Random desert road somewhere between Southern California and Las Vegas. Miles and miles of desert out there.
  9. Are there companies besides Carvana that offer a fast, direct vehicle buyout?

I've used CarMax probably 6-7 times. Once Carvana and others came out, I got some quotes, but CarMax was always higher. Now I don't even bother, especially since there are two CarMax locations near my home. I'm not going to hassle myself over a usually small difference in price over convenience.
  10. R2 water fording crossing test (video)

Obviously we don't know exactly what they were testing with the R2 in that scenario, but the water didn't seem very deep at all. Barely crested half the wheel. What's that...like 15 inches? Vs. the R2 which is like 40something inches.
  11. Tonneau replacement process is arguably unacceptable

Understand your frustration for sure, but from a marketing/sales perspective, this is not the case. You already bought the vehicle. They got your money. New subscribers/customers are far more important to revenue and investors. Anyway, hope your issue gets resolved soon.
  12. Desert roads between SoCal & Vegas

That's the challenge. This time, I was headed to Vegas for a conference (and this will happen occasionally). These are the only times I'm headed out to that area by myself, so I have time. There's almost zero chance I'll have an opportunity to do this any other time since I have family...
  13. Desert roads between SoCal & Vegas

Awesome, thanks! After I got home, I did some more poking around on the OnX app and other forums and there's definitely a ton of options. I also have a Honda CRF300L that I'll explore with when I have the opportunity. So far its been limited to my immediate area (Santiago Peak). Added a...
  14. Desert roads between SoCal & Vegas

No question or major point to this post, other than to share a random experience. Has anyone here explored the expansive desert roads between SoCal and Vegas? Every time I’m in the area, I look out and wish I had extra time to explore, but I’m usually with family and/or I need to get somewhere...
  15. 22" Inch Michelin - Defender LTX M/S2 115 vs 119 @ Costco

I had the 115s installed at my local Discount/Americas Tire. They said they do them all the time. I had the option of the 119s too but it would take another 3 days. It was my fault that I did it last minute since I had a ~200 mile trip up/down the mountains later that day and one of my tires...
  16. Hundreds of production-intent R2 builds rolling out for real world testing and validation

My buddy who works at Rivian confirms there was at least one R2 driving out in the desert testing, somewhere between SoCal and Vegas last week, about the same time I was out there driving. I probably missed it since I was playing around on the random desert roads.
  17. Typical Halloween costume release dates

That's odd. Myself and a couple others I know had theirs still going for over a week after. Cutting it off that midnight seems a little soon.
  18. What dog ramp have people bought for the R1S?

I don't have a ramp yet since I carry my ~70lb dog in. In rare cases (R1S on lowest height and backed toward an incline) she might jump in. But I don't want her jumping out and risk hurting her legs. I'm casually looking for a ramp, but I want something that's portable/can fold to something...
  19. Custom wrap shop recommendations in LA/SoCal?

PFS mention above is a top tier vendor who can everything from PPF to custom wrap work. I also highly recommend them. Their pricing is actually reasonable relatively speaking. Just note that PPF and wrap is a completely different skillset, so it isn't unusual to find someone who does PPF who...
