No one that tows often wants to haul at the rated limit, they always like to have some reserve for extra cargo, hills, emergency swerves, emergency braking, etc.
I really don't know what Rivian is planning, and I would have to read the fine print in the offer, but I can imagine that they can promise to update the autonomy+ software for free for the life of the vehicle, but if the vehicle lacks the Lidar hardware, the parts of the software stack that deal...
It's a fun conundrum. FWIW, I find it helps to project 2-3 years into the future. I would guess by then, the thrill of owning the LE would have long faded, but the regret of having a new-ish vehicle that lacks the capabilities Lidar unlocks would sting. By then, Lidar might be more common...
The Lidar hardware is a visible addition to the front roof of the R2. That hardware is clearly missing in all of the initial editions of the R2.
IMHO, any autonomous vehicle without Lidar and other sensors is seriously handicapped and I would not feel safe nor trust it with eyes-off...
I mostly concur in that it was entirely foreseeable weeks ago when RJ revealed that the Launch Edition of the R2 would be a well-equipped model (and most speculated that the price would be significantly above the promised $45K price point) that some would accuse Rivian of bait and switch...
My apologies, this was supposed to be a post in the daily photos thread, and I actually generated a new thread instead. Kindly ignore and peruse the photos thread instead.
I hope the car industry in general and Rivian in particular do not decide to get on the subscription bandwagon, although I can easily see that happening eventually.
Well, Mike, I agree that this forum isn't the most appropriate for political discussions, I was replying to what I perceived as a request for data referenced in my previous post.
Sometimes the best move is simply to agree to disagree. With a thread dealing with gas prices, and given the...
I believe my pessimism regarding AI is routed in my familiarity with human greed, lust and will to power. I hope my distrust and suspicions are vastly overwrought. Here's a surprisingly entertaining and enlightening video from Neil deGrasse Tyson on a deep dive with Noble laureate and...
I'm unaware of the data sets you are looking at. Is the macro economic outlook in the USA not K-shaped? Do the US government's own reports not show a shrinking middle class over the last half-century? Have scientists changed their consensus on climate change? Are tech experts, including the...
I have debated elsewhere on the forums about getting a spare tire, as my R1T did not come with the kit. On the one hand, I would like to be prepared, but on the other hand, you have the cost, the weight penalty, the fact that I have not had to change a flat tire on any vehicle in decades, the...
Thanks to everyone for keeping the conversation civil, even with disagreements.
The crisis the US is currently in this month is endemic af a larger problem that has been growing since at least the 1970s and deepened in the '80s, and that is the economic stagnation of the middle class you know...
Thanks for your post, as I was unaware beforehand that my comments were taken as an insult. Rest assured, I was not trying to insult anyone. When I wrote that reading some of these posts reminds me of listening to sixth graders, I ment exactly that. If you've ever heard their debates, you...
Bummer of an accident, glad no serious injuries.
One thing I appreciate about this forum is that while there are a few Kool-aid drinkers here, most of the posters are level-headed, trying to be helpful and genuinely seem like good folk you'd enjoy camping with. I'm not loyal to any...
Small mid-west town halfway in between Indianapolis and Columbus. Just last year Amazon was driving ICE around town. And about half the time, Amazon orders are delivered by what looks to be independent third parties.
Saw a brand new EDV for the first time in my neighborhood today. They look much more impressive in person. Got to chat with the driver while he was on break. He said the van is fairly new, gets about 190 miles of range, less in cold temps or high winds. He likes how quiet it is.
The DC he...
