Well, beyond the obvious surface similarities of vertical integration strategies, launching it's own insurance program, leading with premium products before developing mass market vehicles, choosing to develop it's own silicon and software in house, utilizing similar direct selling strategies...
According to this article, evidently, Apple Maps and Tesla navigation don't always agree, Tesla asked Apple to modify Maps, Apple did, but slow adoption in wild.
I think it's obvious that Rivian tends to follow whatever Tesla does, for better or worse, but I would be surprised if RJ ever agrees...
Leasing may make sense for some who always want a new car, don't drive much or make heavy use of their vehicles.
I have an R1T and I use it like a truck, -- it's a work vehicle, an asset rather than a liability. I have it paid off, and now it's a matter of generating that ROI. I plan to keep...
FWIW, here is an interesting article on why Ferrari hired LoveFrom (Ive) to design the user interface.
Predictably, the new design has generated tons of buzz in the car world in general and the Ferrari-verse in particular, people finding the design extremely polarizing.
My fave revelation in...
Well, obviously, setting the introductory trim levels and pricing is not only about covering costs, there is also some deep "strateegeree" , in the words of a former president, going on here.
For launch, you could go upscale in trim and price point to allow a more achievable production ramp up...
I mean, one the one hand, it looks good, but on the other hand, it does looked dated to me for some reason -- or is it that I am just so old, where to young people this seems like a fresh new color?
hopefully, Rivian and Disney have some sort of understanding or permission. We do know that Disney in particular is infamously protective of its IP. A law professor once explained to me that companies are almost compelled to sue any infringement, because as soon as they start to let things...
So, because there was so much early PR promising the $45K price point for the R2, if that base model is not available at R2 launch or shortly thereafter, there will be cries of bait & switch and Rivian's brand reputation will take a hit, especially in this new era of "affordability."
I know...
I still have just under 6K miles on my R1T, but loving it so far.
A suggested modification to your bin products with the coin trays. Currently, when you try to place coins in your coin trays, they do not exactly fit the diameter of US currency and they will roll around and fall out of the...
This update sounds very handy, but ironically, the winter range update will hit us just in time for spring  -- the most handy thing about a watch app for me would be a remote button to open the frunk whilst I am carrying groceries back to the truck, or better yet, siri integration to...
Yes, the boy scout in me wants to be prepared with a spare, but the pesky accountant in me asks when was the last time I needed a spare, how many miles have I driven since in how many vehicles, are there cheaper alternatives, etc. He's quite annoying.
Given my weekly routine in the routes I...
Still not a fan of the ridiculously comical headlights. Do I wish Rivian would redesign them to look cooler? Yes, please. Will they? Not a chance. Some even LOVE them. :puke:
Rivian's vehicles aren't ugly, I find them above average in looks, but still fairly conventional/generic overall...
Correct me if I am wrong, but RJ promised that the launch edition would be at our under 45K, and he made that promise before Trump announced tariffs; is that correct?
If so, Rivian is caught between a rock and a hard place - not only does it have to contend with the impossible to predict tariff...
Like both the Prius layout and the new Ferrari. Apple spent a decade or more working on a car they eventually decided not to build. Looks like what Ferrari is gonna build has a lot of Apple DNA in it, and is probably as close to whatever Apple had in mind as anyone is gonna get. If there is...
No, the clock looks skeuomorphic to me -- a picture of buttons with gradients and shading to look like the real thing. But at the bottom of the screen, there are physical switches.
Here is the challenge, can you, say, turn on the defroster without taking your eyes of the road? Looking forward...
You can tell by the elongated shape of the headlights, which I am still not a fan of by the way. However, I will concede that the stadium headlights do look better on the R2 than they do on the R1 – the aspect ratio is better. But I still think they look ridiculously comical.
I think I understand what you’re saying, but a big reason this has become a point of discussion is that it turns out, after car makers have been eliminating a bunch of physical buttons for screen-driven menus and controls, both to save costs and to compete with Tesla, it turns out many users...
I think all this speculation about range, capacity, etc. is somewhat a waste of time as we will know with certainty soon enough.
The big key question RJ and co. are wrestling with is how well will it sell. It's likely to sell better than the R1 simply due to the lower price point. Buyers...
