Thanks for clarifying. I do have some clunks, too. My main concern is the consistent rattling. Sounds like I have something different than you going on.
So you're saying that some Rivians don't sound like the suspension is rattling apart?
I have ANOTHER service appointment this Thursday, one week from getting my truck back from the last visit. I am pleading with them to just diagnose the rattle. What is causing it? I need them to be straight...
No, I don't have the skid plate. I don't see anything out of the ordinary until the truck. I imagine with how many times the truck has been in for repairs, they would have fixed anything obvious. I made another service ticket for January. Maybe someday this mystery will be solved.
Got my truck back yesterday. Highlights on suspension fixed performed at Seattle Service Center:
1. Updated front jounce subassemblies
2. Replaced front dampers (I confirmed this was an updated unit PT00437091/2-D)
3. Performed FSAM-1507 New bolts, tighten all knuckle/hub fasteners
Still...
will do. They acknowledged the sound, so they can say they think its whatever they think it is. If they return it to me and its not fixed, its an immediate ticket and call to support. The sound is problematic enough that anyone who drives it will hear it and be alarmed. So very easy for them...
Well my R1T went into the Seattle service center this morning. On the ride along, the tech definitely noticed the rattling sound, but things its a loose panel or something. I told him I thought it was half shaft play. He seemed unconvinced. Ugh.
He did mention that he noticed things that...
I just parked my R1T at the Washington Athletic Club (WAC) garage last week. It's right across the street from Sheraton Grand. I was under the impression that Sheraton was valet only.
WAC Garage worked great. easy in, easy out.
Wow! Definitely keep us posted.
So to be clear: You had jounce lines replaced eliminating squeaks, tightened half shafts with new bolts/washers that may have eliminated the rattling, and still have original dampers.
Have you had the half shafts replaced?
Curious if the dampers were never...
I can no longer differentiate between soft and firm rides anymore. It's all jarring and harsh. I've also noticed that this "stretch and flex" of the ride heights is no longer helping like it used to. I feel like my dampers are shot to hell.
I'm almost positive that members on this board have stated Rivian replaced drive units due to this half-shaft play. Some even reported a fluid leak at the spline side connection to the drive unit. I believe these leaks form over time due to the half-shaft design and compromise the drive unit...
Problem is, it's more than just an annoying noise. I really do think this slop in the half shafts eventually damages the drive units, causing a need for replacement. Nobody wants that.
I can definitely feel it in the steering and handling of the vehicle. However, it wasn't always that way. It started as just a light sound, then became more pronounced until finally affecting the driving feel of the vehicle. I'd say this whole saga started at about 7,000 miles. I'm currently...
That video is totally the sound, and the clearest reproduction of it I've heard on video. In the car driving, it produces a rattling-like sound when on uneven pavement. Mine seems to get worse by the month.
Jonger, is that you under the truck rattling the half-shaft by hand?
