This should not happen and should be covered by warranty. I had a similar issue on my Volt when it was about 2 years old. Bubbles were trapped in factory and it took that long to burp, activate low coolant sensor and car would not allow charging. Nothing was damaged as Volt is 11 years old now.

As this not a warranty issue I suggest leaving it up to your insurance company to manage fix rather than having it towed to SC on your dime. I feel your pain. So frustrating that a minor bump is such a headache.
